The AAC operates four programs to assist students in fulfilling their potential:</p> <ul> <li>Peer-Assisted Learning - organized group tutoring aimed at historically difficult courses </li><li>Peer Tutoring - one-on-one or small group, appointment-based and drop-in tutoring for many subjects </li><li>The Writing Commons - one-on-one, appointment-based and drop-in writing assistance </li><li>First-Generation Programming - organized group events and workshops designed for students whose parents did not earn a college degree. </li></ul> <p>This graduate assistant position provides professional learning experiences in organizing and leading undergraduate trainings/workshops, mentoring and supervising a diverse group of student leaders, assessing and developing academic success strategies, and investigating and enhancing program success through data collection, analysis, and reporting. Programs may provide additional opportunities such as hiring, onboarding, teaching, and presenting.</p> <p>Although not necessary, some experience in tutoring/group learning environments is a plus. Most important incoming skills are excellent communication and organizational skills, a strong desire to supervise undergraduate student leaders, and an interest in supporting student academic success. All graduate assistants will receive extensive training and guidance to excel in this position. Because the AAC values inclusion and works towards upholding frameworks grounded in equity and social justice, all graduate assistants receive training in diversity and cultural competency throughout the duration of their assistantship.</p> <p>Main responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Collaborating to organize and facilitate student leader trainings </li><li>Supervising/managing undergraduate student leaders </li><li>Providing constructive feedback to tutors/SI leaders through observations and one-on-one meetings </li><li>Assisting in organizing and running student leader meetings </li><li>Assisting in marketing and promoting the Academic Achievement Center's programs </li><li>Collecting, reporting, and evaluating data on academic support programs use and impact </li><li>Advancing knowledge in and assisting with the operation and maintenance of student-centered software, procedures, and processes </li><li>Applying relevant educational theories to the practice of supplemental instruction (group learning), peer tutoring, and academic coaching </li><li>Interacting with professional staff from a diverse range of offices </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree</p> <p>Ohio University Graduate College application submitted</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree</p> <p>Ohio University Graduate College application submitted</p> <p>1-3 years of professional work experience</p> <p>Department Academic Achievement Center Pay Rate</p> <p>$13,500 (plus tuition waiver for Patton College student and students from select other colleges)</p> <p>Posting Open Date 10/06/2024 Posting End Date 07/31/2025 Job Category Student Hourly Planning Unit University College Work Schedule</p> <p>AAC Graduate Assistants are expected to work a 20 hour per week schedule in the office during the hours the office is open each semester. The Graduate Assistants schedule is the same work hours from week to week.
