<p>Starting Salary: $55,000 - $75,000 /year based on experience Environment: Special Education, Grades K-12 Teaching Specialty: Life Skills | Adult Education</p> <p>ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education, a growing, dynamic organization with a social mission to offer hope, is seeking a Life Skills Teacher to join our award-winning Special Education team and perform meaningful work in a culture that welcomes innovation, encourages creative expression and offers limitless potential for personal and professional satisfaction!</p> <p>If you thrive in a fast-paced, goal-oriented, outcome-driven environment, seek a career with genuine purpose, and possess a problem-solving mindset, a sense of humor, and a stellar work ethic - We Should Talk!</p> <p>As a Special Education Teacher, you will plan, prepare and implement the instructional process for students in Grades K-12 with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) within the learning center and/or classroom including but not limited to delivery of instruction, implementation of curriculum materials & educational software and development of daily lesson plans and classroom schedules which reflect state and school requirements as well the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the learner.</p> <p>? Responsibilities Include:</p> <ul> <li>Providing a collaborative environment for students, parents, center staff and administrative personnel. </li><li>Establishing a climate that promotes a firm, fair, and respectful classroom environment with a focus on social development and group responsibility by modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors as outlined in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program for the school and classroom. </li><li>Training of students in basic life skills such as navigating professional working relationships, understanding appropriate work behavior and other skills related to performing specific job tasks. </li><li>Supporting the assessment and development of student's strengths and needs as it relates to interpersonal and social skills, independent living skills, etc. </li><li>Assisting students in the development of job readiness skills and personal qualities to prepare them to be competitive in the job market (e.g. personal appearance, punctuality, courtesies of expression, responsibility, confidentiality). </li><li>Guiding students through the postsecondary planning process, providing direct and constant interaction with students on their academic and career goals. </li><li>Motivating students, encouraging them to meet their academic goals, and assisting in locating resources regarding financial assistance for post-secondary education. </li><li>Implementing established school-wide and classroom PBIS programs, reinforcement systems, behavioral expectations, and consequences. </li><li>Recording student progress/records, maintaining student files, and preparing reports on students and activities. </li><li>Providing direct subject-based instruction and/or working in a team environment to collaboratively and/or co-teach curricular subjects as required in IEP. </li><li>Accommodating or modifying curriculum and assisting with differentiated instruction for students as well as staff. </li><li>Using a variety of instructional strategies and resources to respond to the diverse needs and interests of students including prescribed educational software and intervention curriculum. </li><li>Acting as case manager to special education students which may include updating IEP's and goals </li><li>Preparing daily lesson plans and materials for assigned class. </li><li>Maintaining the classroom, furniture, and supplies in a neat and orderly condition according to procedure. </li><li>Keeping up to date with research-based practices and developments in subject area. </li><li>Responding constructively to formal and informal feedback. </li><li>Performing other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>? Qualifications Required:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree or higher in special education or a closely related field of study. </li><li>Meet all Indiana state teaching license and/or certification requirements. </li><li>Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an Indiana state special education license. </li><li>Prior experience working with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction in a classroom setting. </li><li>Prior experience teaching life skills, independent living or adult education, preferably in a special education program setting. </li><li>Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with severe learning, emotional behavioral disorders, and/or other related disabilities. </li><li>Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's). </li><li>Strong knowledge and understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Indiana's Article 7. </li><li>Proven success in developing and implementing effective education plans for students with diverse needs. </li><li>Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals. </li><li>Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability. </li><li>Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions. </li><li>Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment. </li></ul> <p>ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education is the nation's leading provider of alternative and special education programs for children and young adults.
