The EHS Specialist coordinates the EHS activities for a Manufacturing Facility located in the Duncan, SC area. This position will ensure that compliance is maintained with AFL and regulatory requirements. The incumbent evaluates and recommends solutions to EHS related problems.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Maintains safety processes and procedures </li><li>Conducts investigations into associates' hazard reporting, suggestions and complaints </li><li>Develops procedures and training for compliance with relevant OSHA Standards and company EHS policies </li><li>Manages investigations, recordkeeping, case management and documentation for all EHS incidents </li><li>Ensures all incidents are recorded and reported according to regulatory and AFL requirements </li><li>Ensures EHS training is conducted for all affected personnel with a focus on strengthening new employee onboarding </li><li>Deploys AFL safety and environmental initiatives </li><li>Tracks and monitors key safety and environmental metrics </li><li>Works with plant operations teams to evaluate, develop, and update Safe Work Instructions/Job Safety Analyses </li><li>Manages site Job Observation and EHS auditing processes </li><li>Engages site leadership and production associates to ensure effective implementation of key EHS programs </li><li>Improve organizational culture by engaging all associates in committees to drive risk reduction using manufacturing excellence tools </li><li>Leverages and analyzes EHS data to identify opportunities for improvement and establish sustainable corrective action plans </li><li>Networks across the EHS organization to identify, share and implement best practices </li><li>Manages compliance with applicable environmental programs and permits (i.e. industrial wastewater, stormwater, air emissions, hazardous waste, etc.) </li><li>Assists with the execution of ISO 14001 requirements to maintain certification and drive continuous improvement </li><li>Assists with the execution of the ergonomic program though proactive identification of high-risk activities, completion of ergonomic assessments and implementation of corrective action plans </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>4 year degree in an EHS-related field and 4-6 years of relevant work experience preferred; will consider a 2 year or other technical degree with at least 4 years of practical EHS work experience </li><li>Incident management, root cause analysis, and investigation skills; ensures appropriate corrective actions are established, tracked and completed in a timely manner </li><li>Knowledgeable in Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES), ISO 14001 and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards </li><li>Requires general personal computer skills as well as the ability to use Microsoft Operating System and specialized EHS systems </li><li>Possess the ability to conduct training for groups of employees in a classroom setting with knowledge of adult learner teaching techniques </li><li>Additional preferred qualifications: </li><li>Experience in a manufacturing environment (co-op/internship is acceptable) </li><li>Knowledge of industry best practices relating to EHS process improvements </li><li>Ability to interface with multiple levels of the organization and communicate effectively to promote buy-in and reduce or eliminate negative associations with EHS initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Personal Qualities</p> <ul> <li>Problem Solving - Excellent ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and provide suggestions for improvements or corrective actions </li><li>Interpersonal skills - Communicates and works well with all levels of the organization; develops relationships with stakeholders to ensure their involvement and commitment </li><li>Collaboration - Ability to promote teamwork with associates across the organization including leading cross-functional teams of associates through committees and projects </li><li>Initiative - Keeps abreast of changing regulations and procedures; develops new and innovative methods for implementing EHS processes </li><li>Autonomous - Able to set priorities while working under limited supervision </li><li>Accommodating - Treats all associates as customers; shows a high degree of empathy for employee concerns and complaints </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Normal office and manufacturing facility environment. Some travel may be required, but not frequent (<15%). </li></ul>
