<p>Intermediate School Librarian</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>A graduate degree earned at a college or university whose program is recognized by appropriate bodies such as the American Library Association (ALA), the American Association of School Librarians (AASL)/Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), or state education agencies.</p> <p>Appropriate state certification as a school librarian.</p> <p>Reports to: Building principal and, if applicable, school library coordinator/team lead</p> <p>Supervises: Paraprofessional(s) who comprise the school library staff and, if applicable, volunteers and student assistants.</p> <p>General Responsibilities of the School Librarian as Teacher, Leader, Instructional Partner, Information Specialist, and Program Administrator</p> <p>? Plan and develop a well-rounded library media program that meets the needs of their school community.</p> <p>? Foster a climate of curiosity and respect.</p> <p>? Work collaboratively with other teachers in a variety of curricular areas to enhance student learning and achievement using methods such as in-person instruction or synchronous and/or asynchronous lessons using online tools.</p> <p>? Collaborate with school and/or district administrators to create and present goal-aligned professional development for colleagues.</p> <p>? Develop and sustain leadership roles within their school community to ensure the achievement of all students</p> <p>? Other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Specific Job Duties for Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation Library Program:</p> <p>Planning</p> <p>? Utilize knowledge of literature and current trends in library practice and information technology to inform library programming and purchasing.</p> <p>? Establish and successfully implement goals for the school library program appropriate to the setting and the students served.</p> <p>? Curate physical and digital collections to meet academic, social, emotional, and recreational needs of the school community within budget limitations.</p> <p>? Seek additional funding through grant writing</p> <p>? Design library programs and lessons that are responsive to the individualized needs of learners.</p> <p>? Create and incorporate curriculum K-5 based on MV Essential Learnings (ELs) and AASL Library Standards and annually modify instruction as needed.</p> <p>? Establish a culture that values reading and information inquiry.</p> <p>? Organize a minimum of one book fair per school year</p> <p>? Create student reading incentives with end-of-year celebrations and reading awards</p> <p>? Organize after-school student book club</p> <p>? Coordinate author visits</p> <p>? Establish and maintain library procedures in accordance with existing district policies.</p> <p>? Uphold MVCSC's Collection Development Plan</p> <p>? Adhere to MVCSC's Reconsideration Plan addressing book challenges accordingly</p> <p>? Maintain end-of-year procedures and inventory</p> <p>? Onboard new faculty to MV library protocol and novel list rules and regulations</p> <p>? Design physical and digital spaces to ensure equitable access to the collection and programs.</p> <p>? Utilize clear signage</p> <p>? Effectively use library space</p> <p>? Maintain K-5 Virtual Libraries</p> <p>? Market the library program, including its collection and service.</p> <p>? Maintain library social media</p> <p>? Maintain MVReads newsletter</p> <p>Effective Instruction (Library 5-6 Fixed Schedules)</p> <p>? Develop student understanding and mastery of reading, information, and digital literacy skills.</p> <p>? Demonstrate and clearly communicate content knowledge to students.</p> <p>? Engage students in academic content, check for understanding, modify instruction as needed.</p> <p>? Maximize instructional time.</p> <p>? Assist students in the use of instructional tools and technologies.</p> <p>? Create an environment conducive to learning.</p> <p>? Collaborate with teachers in the design of instructional units and lessons.</p> <p>Leadership</p> <p>? Contribute to school culture</p> <p>? Participate in after-school activities such as Open Houses and PTO</p> <p>? Collaborate with colleagues</p> <p>? Work with teachers to plan and implement Literacy Nights</p> <p>? Seek professional skills and knowledge</p> <p>? Commit to leadership roles/committees</p> <p>? Join Indiana Library Federation (ILF) for professional development through listserv and conference</p> <p>? Advocate for student success</p> <p>? Prepare and submit reports and budgets</p> <p>? Maintain all library 2222 accounts using Skyward Finance</p> <p>? Communicate with the larger community</p> <p>? Establish connections with public libraries</p> <p>? Participate in a professional community</p> <p>? Collaborate with library peers for horizontal and vertical alignment via the MVCSC PLC process</p> <p>? Establish, evaluate, and maintain library procedures in regards to library staff or student assistants</p> <p>? Educate the school community regarding ethical use of information and media</p> <p>Terms of Employment: Educator work year plus extended-year days</p> <p>Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with district policies</p> <p>Certified Benefits per Teacher Contract</p> <p>Extended work calendar- 190 days</p>
