Through engagement, data-driven regulation and policy, and operational excellence, the Department and its employees are responsible for empowering consumers and protecting them from financial harm; ensuring the health of the entities we regulate; driving economic growth in New York through responsible innovation; and preserving the stability of the global financial system.</p> <p>The Department of Financial Services is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Deputy Superintendent for Strategy in the Strategy Unit within the Research and Innovation Division. The position reports to the Deputy Superintendent of Strategy and provides strategic and technical input on innovation-related legislation, supports internal and external regulatory coordination, and provides legal and policy expertise. As a key advisor, the position will collaborate with leaders across the Research and Innovation Division and assist in the Deputy Superintendent of Strategy on a broad range of issues.</p> <p>Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:</p> <ul> <li>Tracks relevant legislation at the state, federal, and international levels and provides expert review, developing response memos and briefing materials; </li><li>Coordinates with Legislative Affairs, the EDS, and Unit Deputies to engage with legislators and staffers and provide feedback and technical support on relevant bills; </li><li>Leads strategic policy development initiatives on innovation-related issues; </li><li>Supports efforts to coordinate with state, federal, and international regulators; </li><li>Supports internal coordination efforts, including related to development and implementation of policies and procedures; </li><li>Stays abreast of trends in virtual currency and other innovative financial products and services; </li><li>Advises the Deputy Superintendent of Strategy on all matters falling within the scope of assigned responsibility and making necessary recommendations; and </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Juris doctor degree and at least six (6) years' experience in financial services sector, with direct experience with virtual currency or other innovative products preferred. </li><li>Significant experience drafting or analyzing legislation, regulation, or regulatory guidance. </li></ul> <p>Appointment method:</p> <p>This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class.
