<p>Salary Range: $64,411- $94,581 (+ $10-$20/hour in benefits)</p> <p>Employment with the City of Canton comes with an array of benefits. To be eligible for the position under this examination, all applicants must be U.S. citizens or have a permanent resident card. Applicants must be a High School graduate or possess a G.E.D. and be at least 18 years of age.</p> <p>General Statement of Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>This is a responsible and professional position with lower-level managerial responsibilities</p> </li><li> <p>Perform professional work which involves the application of civil engineering, surveying, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), or project management to the design, oversight, and construction of public works projects</p> </li><li> <p>Work is performed under the general direction of applicable professional staff and is subject to review upon completion</p> </li><li> <p>Assignments are usually broad in scope with the opportunity for the use of professional judgment</p> </li><li> <p>Application of sound technical principles, practices, and judgment at various levels of project design and construction</p> </li><li> <p>Work must be performed in accordance with applicable laws, codes, and regulations</p> </li><li> <p>This position is responsible for the direction of work and manner of accomplishment of assigned personnel</p> </li><li> <p>This is a professional engineering track position</p> </li><li> <p>This position reports to the Department Head, Assistant Department Head, or their designee</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training as deemed acceptable by the Department Head</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess a valid State of Ohio Driver's License at all times</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering</p> </li><li> <p>Passing score on Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>General knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering, surveying, GIS, project management, or any combination of the above as needed by the department</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity or basic ability to utilize computer software, including, but not limited to AutoCAD Civil 3D, ESRI, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, and water modeling</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and safety standards as related to engineering design, construction, and related standards and specifications</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to plan projects and prepare related designs, estimates, and specifications</p> </li><li> <p>Skill in the use of engineering and surveying instruments and equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to prepare technical and administrative reports</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to analyze situations and develop workable solutions</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to effectively communicate and present ideas verbally and in writing</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as appropriate with elected officials, department heads, city employees, other agencies, the development, engineering, and construction community, the general public, etc.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to effectively supervise assigned personnel</p> </li><li> <p>Proactive training and continuing professional development</p> </li></ul> <p>Examples of Work:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assist the Department Head, Assistant Department Head, or their assigned designee in developing, implementing, supervising, and managing various public works projects</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct preliminary studies and prepare designs for public works improvements related to water distribution</p> </li><li> <p>Develop scopes, specifications, estimates, and standards for public works projects</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare loan and grant applications</p> </li><li> <p>Create CAD drawings</p> </li><li> <p>Operate survey equipment including GIS devices</p> </li><li> <p>Consult with developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and others regarding proposed developments, associated utilities, and applicable permits and regulations</p> </li><li> <p>Advise and answer technical questions regarding various projects</p> </li><li> <p>Review and approve construction plans and specifications prepared by consulting engineers, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and others for the City</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure that plans are in compliance with applicable City codes, specifications, and other requirements</p> </li><li> <p>Assist engineering personnel in the design of a variety of public works projects</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in the inspection and oversight of public works construction projects</p> </li><li> <p>Review project plans, construction specifications, material testing requirements, safety standards, shop drawings, quantity measurements, change orders, etc. with inspectors</p> </li><li> <p>Review pay requests from contractors and consultants and process accordingly</p> </li><li> <p>Identify problems and potential problems, and recommend solutions to senior management as necessary</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare and maintain records and reports delineating the activities of the department</p> </li><li> <p>Keep abreast of professional developments in the field of civil engineering by reading and studying journals and trade magazines, affiliation with local professional or trade organizations, and attendance to professional or trade workshops and conferences</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate efforts as needed with various departments, agencies, representatives, and the general public</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise assigned staff activities on a daily basis</p> </li><li> <p>Train employees as appropriate</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports</p> </li><li> <p>Confer with others and give engineering advice on a wide variety of public works improvements</p> </li><li> <p>Attend meetings concerning
