<p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:</p> <p>Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus benefit package. Salary Range: $</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION:</p> <p>The Virtual Learning ESOL Teacher provides specialized instruction to English learners in grades 6-12 enrolled in virtual learning programs. The teacher supports virtual instruction in Edgenuity aligned with students' language proficiency levels and content needs. Instruction is delivered through Edgenuity, requiring strong integration of technology and culturally responsive pedagogy. The teacher serves as a liaison between students, families, and school staff to foster language development and academic achievement in a virtual environment.</p> <p>JOB GOAL:</p> <p>To help virtual students master subject content and credentialing skills that contribute to their educational, social development, and career/college readiness, incorporating a framework clustered into four domains of teaching responsibility: planning and preparation, classroom environment, instruction, and professional responsibilities.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Must meet Arkansas certification requirements in: ESL endorsement and/or ESL Training required. Must be a certified teacher in a core instructional area 9-12. </li><li>Expertise and experience related to literacy and second language acquisition. </li><li>Mastery of effective instructional techniques and strategies that lead to improved student achievement in all content areas. </li><li>Demonstrates a willingness to try new teaching and assessment strategies that would benefit all students. </li><li>Experience with online learning platforms (Edgenuity experience preferred). </li><li>Strong technology skills and ability to adapt to virtual learning tools. </li><li>Willingness to participate in on-going staff development. </li><li>Ability to teach to differences and sensitivity to cultural differences. </li><li>Commitment to staff development and to apply new techniques in the classroom. </li><li>Demonstrates the conviction that all children can and will learn in the Little Rock School District. </li><li>Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education. </li><li>Ability to articulate student progress clearly to parents. </li><li>Evidence of the ability to design and implement hands-on activities and thematic units in all content areas. </li></ul> <p>Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.</p> <ul> <li>Adapt and scaffold Edgenuity content to meet the linguistic needs of English Language Learners across proficiency levels. Embed visual supports, simplified language, and glossaries into assignments and assessments to support comprehension. </li><li>Instruct students on how to effectively use Edgenuity's built-in accessibility tools (e.g., translation features, text-to-speech, closed captions). Provide technical support and guidance to ensure ELLs can access and navigate the virtual learning platform independently. </li><li>Deliver small group and one-on-one language instruction to support vocabulary development, reading comprehension, writing, and oral communication skills. Use data (Edgenuity progress reports) to identify language development needs and plan interventions accordingly. </li><li>Work closely with virtual classroom teachers to co-plan and differentiate instruction that supports language acquisition within core academic content. Share strategies and resources to help general educators support ELLs in a virtual environment. </li><li>Track student engagement, course completion rates, and academic growth within Edgenuity. Maintain accurate documentation of services, interventions, and student progress toward language and academic goals. </li><li>Maintain regular, culturally and linguistically responsive communication with families regarding student progress, language development, and available supports. Coordinate with interpreters or translation services as needed. </li><li>Participate in team meetings with counselors, administrators, and other support staff to develop strategies for student success. Assist in developing student plans (e.g., EL Plans, 504s, IEPs) as needed for ELLs. </li><li>Encourage student participation, confidence, and connection in a virtual environment. Celebrate and integrate students' cultural and linguistic backgrounds into learning activities and classroom culture. </li><li>Stay up-to-date on best practices for virtual ESOL instruction, educational technology, and federal/state compliance for English learners. Participate in training and professional learning communities related to English learner education and virtual instruction. </li><li>Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior. </li><li>Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. </li><li>Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. </li><li>Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. </li><li>Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.</p>
