<p>Title:</p> <p>UB Instructor - High School Language Arts</p> <p>Department:</p> <p>TRiO</p> <p>Reports To:</p> <p>Director, TRIO Programs</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Staff</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>High School Language Arts Instructor for English I, II, III, and IV.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>To conduct an integrated academic language arts (English I, English II, English III, English IV ) class. </li><li>Teach students learning strategies. </li><li>Conduct teaching and instructional activities using educational equipment, manipulative objects, props, and other learning aids, and prepare and submit a course outline prior to the start of the class. </li><li>Assist with the planning, instruction, and evaluation of tutoring and problem-solving activities. </li><li>Complete paperwork associated with classroom and project management. </li><li>Make recommendations on students' strength and needs. </li><li>Report student learning and behavioral issues to the appropriate staff personnel. </li><li>Assist with the training and evaluation of Teacher Assistants. </li></ul> <p>Additional Functions:</p> <ul> <li>The Instructor is required to attend training and meetings. </li><li>In the event of an absence please provide 24-hour notice. Classroom work must be prepared for students and the TA must be prepared to deliver work to students in the absence of an instructor. </li><li>Transport students from one class location to another in a timely manner, ensuring proper supervision and safety of students. </li></ul> <p>Prerequisite Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Two or more years of teaching experience at the high school or post-secondary level. </li><li>Complete a background clearance check. </li><li>Ability to plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive instructional tutoring program for students enrolled in the Upward Bound Program. </li><li>Undergraduate or graduate degree in the designated discipline. </li><li>Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students at the middle school, high school or post-secondary level. </li><li>At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position. </li></ul> <p>FLSA:</p> <p>Non-Exempt</p> <p>Part-Time</p> <p>Special Instructions for Applicant:</p> <p>The hourly rate for this position is $40.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.</p>
