<p>Req Id: 36209</p> <p>Job Title: Analytical Chemist - Feed Lab</p> <p>City: West Lafayette</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The primary goal of the feed laboratory is to perform product label testing on animal feed and pet foods for regulatory purposes. The Analytical Chemist will assist the Feed Laboratory Supervisor in achieving and maintaining operational excellence in conformity with Purdue University laboratory and safety standards, Office of Indiana State Chemist (OISC) Standards, and international standards such as ISO 17025:2017. In this role, you will perform chemical analysis using various analytical platforms within the feed laboratory, and manage and maintain assigned instruments and equipment with the goal of minimizing downtime while enabling optimal functionality and performance conditions.</p> <p>What You'll Be Doing:</p> <ul> <li>Performing moderate to complex chemical testing on commercial feed and pet food samples designated components (e.g. amino acids, vitamins, drugs, mycotoxins) as defined in manufacturers' specifications using complex instrumentation that includes liquid chromatography with mass spectroscopy, ultraviolet, fluorescence and refractive index detection, gas chromatography with flame ionization detection and UV-VIS spectrophotometry </li><li>Processing and evaluating data to determine whether quality control standards are met </li><li>Documenting analyses and submit reports for final review by section supervisor </li><li>Participating in cannabinoids analysis during the hemp growing season </li><li>Maintaining common equipment used in the analytical laboratory such as LC and GC instruments with various detectors as well as UV-Visible spectrometers and extraction devices </li><li>Troubleshooting problems that may arise during instrument analysis </li><li>Participate in the installation and validation of new instruments </li><li>Participating in developing new feed analysis methods, validate methods, and draft standard operating procedures or research manuscript for publication </li><li>Periodically preparing and giving presentations at conferences </li><li>Participating in Proficiency Testing programs and collaborative studies </li><li>Assisting with the implementation of ISO 17025 and Animal Feed Regulatory Program Standards </li></ul> <p>What We're Looking For:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelors degree in chemistry or related field </li><li>2 years of analytical laboratory experience </li><li>In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered (Associates + 4 years of experience; HS/GED + 6 years of experience) </li><li>Analytical Chemistry, Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry skills </li><li>Computer software skills </li></ul> <p>What We'd Like You to Know:</p> <ul> <li>Learn more about Purdue's benefits summary </li><li>Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position </li><li>A Background Check is required for employment in this position </li><li>FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible For Overtime) </li><li>Retirement Eligibility: Defined Contributions Waiting Period </li><li>Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer. </li></ul> <p>When you join Purdue University, you join a community that keeps moving forward.
