<p>Salary Grade</p> <p>Case Western Reserve University is committed to providing a transparent estimate of the salary range available for this position at the time of its posting. The salary range is between $46,035 and $58,234, depending on qualifications, experience, department budgets, and industry data.</p> <p>Employees receive more than just a paycheck. University employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes excellent healthcare, retirement plans, tuition assistance, paid time off, and a winter recess.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>POSITION OBJECTIVE</p> <p>The Student Advancement Specialist (Online) at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences will manage, coordinate and assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of activities that improve, support, and enhance student retention and student success. As a key advisor, the student advancement specialist provides comprehensive support for Mandel School master's students from matriculation to graduation, helping them navigate the complex and demanding challenges of graduate school and achieving academic goals. The specialist interprets student needs, and provides individualized services including academic advising and career planning. This position involves high-level independent and team work with student support, advanced data analysis, strategic planning, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Student Success and Retention: Lead the process of providing individualized guidance to students to address academic, personal, and program-related concerns to support their success, persistence, and completion in the master's programs. Cultivate and identify resources and referrals for student support. Drive processes to help students resolve issues in a timely manner. Guide students through the technical aspects of the online learning management system. Manage student advisee tracking and information on Student Success Platforms. (40%) </li><li>Academic Advising: Serve as the central advisor for all master's students in the online program. Lead 200 master's students through pattern of enrollment, course selection, degree requirements and academic policies; including challenges students may face in their academic and professional lives, and offer resources for skill-building and personal growth. Guide students through managing the intersection of the academic program and plans to support their success. (20%) </li><li>Student-Centered Programming: Plan, implement, and evaluate all student-centered educational and community-building programs from orientation through commencement. Plan programs in relation to student needs and evidence-informed best practices in student support and higher education. (20%) </li><li>Career and professional development support: Provide guidance as students navigate career paths, develop professionally, and secure employment during the program and post-graduation. Plan career and professional development programming, including preparation for social work licensure. (15%) </li></ul> <p>NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Provide direction and administrative support to Mandel Council and Mandel School student organizations. Serve as liaison to university graduate/professional student council director as needed. (5%) </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. (<1%) </li></ul> <p>CONTACTS</p> <p>Department: Continuous contact with staff and faculty in the office of academic affairs and the Mandel School at large to share information and resolve student issues. Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Services, Registrar, Associate Dean of Innovation, and Assistant Dean of Field Education. Regular contact with Executive Director for Alumni Relations and team to support career progression and Student Mentorship Program for current graduate students.</p> <p>University: Frequent contact with career services and other university offices connected with student success to share information for student support and retention.</p> <p>External: Occasional contact with alumni, community resources and vendors on an as-needed basis to support the needs of students.</p> <p>Students: Continuous contact with Mandel School students to support educational goals, retention, and overall success in the program.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>No supervisory responsibilities.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Experience: 3 years of experience in student services and/or student support required. Higher education experience preferred.</p> <p>Education/Licensing: Bachelor's degree in social work or related field required. Master's degree in social work, nonprofit management, or closely related field preferred. LSW preferred.</p> <p>REQUIRED SKILLS</p> <ul> <li>Strong written and oral communication skills with high acumen of connecting with students across various media (phone, email, Zoom). </li><li>Demonstrated exceptional relationship-building skills. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to support and challenge a population of high-ability graduate students, and to engage and retain continuing students. </li><li>Ability to develop relationships with community partners, faculty and staff both virtually and in person. </li><li>Demonstrated high level of professionalism, including organizational decision-making, critical thinking, team building skills and capacity for change. </li><li>Ability to work with a high level of independence and autonomy, including performing under stress when confronted with an emergency. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to hold confidential, sensitive information. </li><li>Familiarity with online learning technology preferred. </li><li>Proficiency in computing, including all Microsoft Office suite and CRM tools. </li><li>Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. </li><li>Willingness to adapt to different time zones to engage various students. </li><li>Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face. </li><li>Ability to meet consistent attendance. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>Open office environment. Occasional evening and/or weekend work.</p> <p>Hybrid Eligibility</p> <p>This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department.
