<p>The New England Conservatory, an independent not-for-profit institution, is recognized internationally as a leader among music schools, educating and training musicians of all ages from around the world. As part of NEC's mission to make lifelong music education available to everyone, the Preparatory School and School of Continuing Education delivers training and performance opportunities for children, pre-college students, and adults.</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY:</p> <p>The Research & Instruction Librarian develops and delivers innovative outreach and effective research and instruction support programs and services for the NEC community. This Librarian provides course-integrated instruction in the identification and evaluation of information resources; individual consultations on the design and pursuit of research strategies and the use of research-related technologies; applies expertise to the selection of new library resources; and provides formal and informal programs to orient faculty, staff and students to NEC-supported information and technology services and resources. Provides operational support for library service locations and participates in and/or leads projects, cross-departmental initiatives, and the work of the team to ensure the success of NEC's teaching, learning, and performance goals. This individual reports to the Library Director.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Prepare and deliver course-integrated instruction on identifying, retrieving, and evaluating information resources in a variety of formats. </li><li>Provide individual consultations on the design and pursuit of research strategies and the use of research-related technologies. Answer reference inquiries. </li><li>Apply expertise to evaluating, selecting, deploying and supporting appropriate information and research resources in support for the conservatory's needs. </li><li>Create and maintain electronic content relating to research, instruction and related academic endeavors, the library website, and social media. </li><li>Provide formal and informal programs to orient faculty, staff, and students to college-supported information and technology services and resources. </li><li>Establish and foster strong relationships with faculty and students to learn about and engage with evolving approaches to research and teaching. Collaborate with colleagues to select materials and align acquisitions and resources, services, and programs with current academic priorities. </li><li>Stay abreast of NEC's curriculum both current and proposed, and trends in tools and initiatives that support the creative discovery and use of all forms of musical creation and technology. </li><li>Assist in the evaluation of research and learning outcomes, and implement assessment techniques. </li><li>Assist in procuring estimates and arranging discounts from vendors for higher-priced online resources. </li><li>Manage and organize the library website, libguides, and social media content. </li><li>As a member of the Public Services team, provide assistance with library hardware and personal devices such as computers, photocopiers/printers, and laptops, including software. </li><li>Staff Service Desk, as needed. </li><li>Train and supervise student staff. </li><li>Occasional night/weekend hours may be required. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in a music-related field. </li><li>3 years of relevant experience or an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree and 1 year of relevant experience. </li><li>Broad knowledge of music literature, relevant access tools (in physical and electronic formats), and issues related to intellectual property. </li><li>Demonstrated professional skills in public services, library instruction, and answering reference questions. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, library users, and library colleagues in a diverse and changing working environment. </li><li>Experience in curriculum and faculty development, as means of teaching and learning. </li><li>Strong technology skills and an enthusiasm for adopting new technologies and systems, such as Artificial Intelligence, that help advance the mission of the library and promote information literacy. </li><li>Knowledge of library platforms such as FOLIO, and software such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. </li><li>High levels of courtesy, professionalism and confidentiality. </li><li>Proven written and verbal communication skills. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS and 3 years of relevant experience. </li><li>Advanced degree in a music-related field. </li><li>Familiarity with other genres of music such as world, jazz, popular, etc. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of traditional and emerging approaches to research and teaching in music and related disciplines. </li><li>Experience partnering with staff who support instructional technologies in pursuit of faculty and student success. </li><li>Experience incorporating archives and special collections into course-integrated instruction. </li></ul> <p>NEC is an Equal Opportunity Employer that recruits and hires qualified candidates without regard to race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, or veteran status.</p> <p>Annual Clery Report</p> <p>In accordance with the federal Clery and Campus SaVE Acts, New England Conservatory of Music (NEC) commits to providing all current and prospective students and employees with access to the annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report.
