<p>Kleinschmidt has an hourly, temporary opening for a summer GIS Intern to assist in digitizing and managing parcel boundaries using ArcGIS Pro and diverse geospatial data sources, contributing to high-quality spatial datasets. They will also support the development of topology rules, metadata documentation, and quality assurance processes to ensure data accuracy and consistency. This position is in Kleinschmidt's Pennsylvania office in Strasburg, PA, and requires at least 3 days in-office.</p> <p>Salary: $22.00/hour (based on experience)</p> <p>Who You Are</p> <p>A Biology or Geography Student with experience in geographic information systems.</p> <p>You are currently pursuing-or have recently completed-a Bachelor of Science in Geography, Geospatial Information Systems, or a related field. You bring a solid foundation in spatial analysis and digital mapping and have hands-on experience (or a strong interest) in using industry-standard tools such as ArcGIS Pro. In this role, you will develop skills in processing georeferenced data (e.g., aerial imagery, LiDAR, and digital property maps) and learn to build high-quality spatial datasets.</p> <p>Relationship-focused: You have a natural ability to connect with team members and clients. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will help you collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to complex mapping projects.</p> <p>Knowledgeable: You possess-or are eager to develop-a clear understanding of the GIS project lifecycle. This includes data digitization, metadata documentation, and quality assurance/quality control processes. Familiarity with spatial data standards and geoprocessing workflows is a plus.</p> <p>Project Contributor: You are motivated to contribute to all phases of GIS projects-from initial setup and digitization of parcel boundaries to the development of topology rules and standardized metadata. You're ready to assist senior staff in refining workflows and ensuring data integrity, gaining practical experience with real-world projects.</p> <p>Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States. </li><li>Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license. </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team </li><li>Excellent organizational and communication abilities. </li><li>Experience in ArcGIS Pro, Python/ArcPy, R </li><li>Ability to conduct terrestrial field surveys </li><li>Practical experience with GPS equipment </li><li>Exposure to ArcGIS Online, Esri's mobile field applications, and S123 </li></ul> <p>About the Position</p> <p>As a GIS Intern, you will be an integral part of our team working on projects that include tasks such as:</p> <ul> <li>Data Digitization & Management: Assisting in the digitization of parcel boundaries using ArcGIS Pro, based on georeferenced drawings, property maps, aerial imagery, LiDAR data, and other relevant sources. </li><li>Topology & Metadata Development: Supporting the creation of topology rules to ensure datasets are accurate and free of errors, as well as documenting metadata that details data collection methods, attribute definitions, and usage limitations. </li><li>Quality Assurance/Quality Control: Collaborating with GIS professionals to implement QA/QC workflows that verify the spatial accuracy and consistency of the datasets, and learning to develop standardized database schemas and file naming conventions. </li><li>Project Coordination: Contributing to overall project management by assisting with administrative tasks, scheduling, and maintaining clear communication with internal teams and external stakeholders (e.g., client representatives from Alabama Power). </li></ul> <p>This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment, working on innovative projects that directly impact infrastructure and environmental management.
