The Per-diem Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses with evaluation, management, and treatment of patients during office visits and other tasks related to the visit consistent with his/her training and skills. His/her primary roles are to assure efficient patient flow through the office; to maintain neat, clean and safe patient care areas, and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>In addition to Medical Assistant I, responsibilities:</p> <p>Crossed trained at the front desk to assist with phone calls, appointment scheduling, in-basket messaging, check in, check out, copay collection and other front desk duties</p> <p>Crossed trained to cover a number of Pediatric Specialties departments including Pedi GI, Endocrine, Surgery, Urology, Cardiology, Food Allergy, Nephrology</p> <p>Reviews provider schedules daily and weekly to plan patient care and formulates solutions for potential problems</p> <p>Communicates schedule changes with providers</p> <p>Greets patient in waiting room and escorts to triage room and exam room</p> <p>Assures efficient patient flow through the office, triage room and exam rooms</p> <p>Checks patient's identification using (2) patient identifiers - name, DOB and/or MRN</p> <p>Adheres to hand hygiene and standard precaution guidelines</p> <p>Instructs patient how to prepare for the physician or nurse practitioner (assisting as necessary)</p> <p>Anticipates / sets up special equipment and/or supplies needed for the visit</p> <p>Alerts the physician or nurse practitioner when the patient is ready and communicates pertinent clinical information</p> <p>Helps develop and set up new Clinic Specialties when needed</p> <p>Assists the physician or nurse practitioner with patient care during the visit</p> <p>Assists patient through checkout process when visit is complete</p> <p>Cleans and prepares room for next patient</p> <p>Responds to needs to expedite visits and keep on schedule</p> <p>Provides care appropriate to age group of patients in practice setting and documents data per practice protocols</p> <p>Performs tests, procedures, and treatments as needed</p> <p>Download glucometers, pumps and reports when needed during Diabetic Clinic Day</p> <p>Assists physician or nurse practitioner with patient examination, procedures, and treatments as directed</p> <p>Documents testing / results per practice protocols</p> <p>Enters vitals and test results into EPIC</p> <p>Updates clinical paperwork as needed</p> <p>Participate in daily morning huddles</p> <p>Practice cost effectiveness measures</p> <p>Assist in training new employees</p> <p>Assists physicians, nurse practitioner or nurses in coordinating care with / making referrals to community agencies for non-clinical services</p> <p>Maintains neat, clean and safe exam rooms and treatment areas</p> <p>Assures exam, treatment and clean utility rooms are properly stocked, equipped, and secured as applicable</p> <p>Assures all equipment is in good working order</p> <p>Cleans equipment, exam rooms and triage room after patient use per office protocol</p> <p>Promotes patient / customer satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs</p> <p>Communicates appropriately and effectively with patient</p> <p>Functions as in integral part of the patient care team</p> <p>Interacts in a professional, cooperative way with other practice staff</p> <p>Accepts delegate responsibilities in a positive manner</p> <p>Offers help to others in the practice when not busy</p> <p>Before leaving the practice on breaks / lunch makes sure adequate coverage is available</p> <p>Engages in constructive problem solving with others in the practice as problems arise</p> <p>Attends and participates in practice staff meetings</p> <p>Performs all other duties assigned</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Medical Assistant program required</p> <p>Basic Life Support certification required</p> <p>Associates degree preferred</p> <p>Nursing Assistant certification or other academic preparation may be considered in lieu of Medical Assistant certification</p> <p>1-2 years of Medical Assistant experience</p> <p>Additional Job Details (if applicable)</p> <p>SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED :</p> <p>Knowledge of computer skills necessary including EPIC and Microsoft Outlook as required.</p> <p>Exceptional organizational skills, flexibility to manage multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail</p> <p>Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment</p> <p>Excellent and effective interpersonal and communication skills</p> <p>Demonstrated ability to work effectively and courteously with various groups of patients, families, support staff, and providers</p> <p>Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and function as a resource to other members of the team</p> <p>Ability to resolve complex issues on behalf of the providers and the patients</p> <p>Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA Confidentiality and Privacy Policies</p> <p>Ability to Prioritize</p> <p>Accuracy and attention to detail</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <p>Ambulatory Care Setting</p> <p>Remote Type</p> <p>Onsite</p> <p>Work Location</p> <p>2014 Washington Street</p> <p>Scheduled Weekly Hours</p> <p>1</p> <p>Employee Type</p> <p>Regular</p> <p>Work Shift</p> <p>Day (United States of America)</p> <p>EEO Statement:</p> <p>The General Hospital Corporation is an Affirmative Action Employer.
