University employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes excellent healthcare, retirement plans, tuition assistance, paid time off, and a winter recess.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>POSITION OBJECTIVE</p> <p>Under the direction of Senior Data Manager, the Database Manager will provide input, strategic planning, coordination, and maintenance for the Patient Care and Research Database working group of the Center for AIDS Research at Case Western University/University Hospitals of Cleveland Case Medical Center.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Ensure the timely review, update, and analysis of clinical data derived from the provider-patient interactions involving the patients of the special immunology unit and the research participants in studies conducted at the clinical trials unit. (10%) </li><li>Conduct a regular mechanism for critical extraction of relevant data from the electronic and printed medical records for all patients followed at the special immunology unit and all research participants whose records are to be maintained through the patient care and research database. This function requires the ability to understand the basics of medical care for patients with HIV infection and related conditions, and to identify critically ambiguous or inconsistent data elements in the medical record for further review. (10%) </li><li>Facilitate the flow of information to and from researchers who request data from the patient care and research database and respond to the needs of the investigators and research staff of the clinical trials unit to identify and follow potential participants for clinical studies. (7%) </li><li>Assist in the compliance, design, and enforcement of the unit¿s policies regarding patient confidentiality, data integrity, and data safety. (7%) </li><li>Together with the IT staff and programming personnel, provide input into the design, update, and maintain the queries and programs needed to respond to both the clinical and research objectives of the unit¿s investigators and providers. (7%) </li><li>Oversee the work of the undergraduate programming students asked to be part of the data team on a temporary basis. (7%) </li><li>Provide feedback on areas for targeted improvement of processes and tools in the Patient Care and Research Database system in response to both the day-to-day workflow and the comments and input from users and program managers. (7%) </li><li>Propose solutions to new needs and desired functionality in the patient care and research database. (6%) </li><li>Assist with periodic reviews of data quality in the patient care and research database, including all members of the database team and additional ad-hoc participants as needed. (7%) </li></ul> <p>NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Communicate directly with healthcare providers, clinic administrators, and ancillary personnel, to resolve data inconsistencies or unclear information related to patient and research participant records. (5%) </li><li>Participate in the monthly database meeting with users, program directors, and clinic providers, and assist with the implementation of responses to items raised during the meetings. (5%) </li><li>Interact with local, regional, national, and international investigators and collaborators in designing solutions for clinical and research data management that contribute to the mission of the Case/UHCMC HIV research group. (5%) </li><li>Collaborate with providers, clinical leaders, and administrators in the Special Immunology Unit to fulfill funding agency requirements and emerging clinical needs to optimize care and services for clinic patients. (5%) </li><li>Maintain an accurate and systematic tracking mechanism of all the research activities related to the Patient Care and Research Database. (5%) </li><li>Assist with requests for communication with the unit administrative personnel related to budgetary issues, unit personnel coordination, equipment, and office supplies. (4%) </li><li>Cross-cover the functions of other Patient Care and Research Database team members during absences. (2%) </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. (1%) </li></ul> <p>CONTACTS</p> <p>Department: Department: Daily contact with other Patient Care and Research Database team members. Regular contact with physicians, other healthcare providers, and ancillary personnel in the Special Immunology unit. Regular contact with investigators, research nurses, and laboratory personnel affiliated with the Center for AIDS Research and the Clinical Trials Unit.</p> <p>University: Some contact with Case Western Reserve University administrative offices of Human Resources, Payroll, or Student Employment as needed to manage the team and the position.</p> <p>External: Occasional contact with external collaborators, including foreign collaborators and care providers, as needed to fulfill the requirements of multicenter projects.</p> <p>Students: Regular contact with students hired to perform programming and/or clerical functions in the Patient Care Research Database team.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY</p> <p>Supervise the QA/QC Specialist, and any undergraduate students hired for programming and assisting the database team.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Experience: 2 to 4 years of experience in related fields or responsibilities. The experience can be any combination of work as a healthcare provider with direct contact and day-today management of medical records, clinical research data management, electronic medical record management, and clinical database management.</p> <p>Education: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree or higher is strongly preferred. Degrees in a healthcare discipline, computing with an emphasis in database management, or healthcare administration with an emphasis in electronic medical records are also strongly preferred.</p> <p>REQUIRED SKILLS</p> <ul> <li>Proven understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with medical records and medical documents. </li><li>Knowledge of HIV-related medications, conditions, and terminology is highly desirable. </li><li>Proven ability to analyze data and identify patterns. </li><li>Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work and communicate with various individuals from a broad spectrum of disciplines, technical and educational backgrounds within the department, school and university, and with individuals outside the university. </li><li>Strong organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize, give attention to detail, and meet deadlines. </li><li>Effective management skills; ability to lead, work with, elicit cooperation from, and read communication styles of team members and staff. Ability to lead a small but dynamic working group effectively and efficiently is essential. </li><li>Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. </li><li>Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face. </li><li>Ability to meet consistent attendance. </li><li>Ability to problem-solve effectively, and demonstrate good judgment and logical decision-making. Must demonstrate high creativity and ability to envision solutions to novel problems and requirements with minimal supervision, and to evaluate and adjust proposed strategies rapidly and efficiently. </li><li>Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timeline. Must be flexible to respond to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently. Must be able to adapt to varying workloads and respond appropriately to stressful situations. </li><li>Ability to quickly learn new techniques, processes, procedures, techniques, ideas, etc., including medical guidelines related to job functions, and assigned projects. </li><li>Advanced knowledge of the Windows operating system and basic MS Office software in a network environment. </li><li>Proficiency in the use of database management systems, including Microsoft SQL and Microsoft Access, are strongly desirable and will be given priority. For applicants without these skills, willingness to receive training in these applications early during appointment. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>General office environment with frequent computer use. Occasional travel, including internationally may be required as needed.</p> <p>Hybrid Eligibility</p> <p>This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department.
