<p>Duties</p> <p>Responsibilities and Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>The Principal's primary responsibility is the improvement of instruction.</p> </li><li> <p>A majority of the time spent by the Principal shall be focused on curriculum and staff development through both formal and informal activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Establish clear lines of communication regarding school goals, accomplishments, practices and policies with parents and teachers.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise the operation of assigned attendance center.</p> </li><li> <p>Assume administrative responsibilities and instructional leadership under the supervision of the Superintendent for the planning, operation, and evaluation of the educational program of assigned attendance area.</p> </li><li> <p>Utilize resources of proper law enforcement agencies when the safety and welfare of students and teachers are threatened by illegal use of drugs and alcohol, by illegal use or possession of weapons, or by illegal gang activity.</p> </li><li> <p>Implement the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan a program of study that improves instruction and meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.</p> </li><li> <p>Adequately prepare for daily leadership of building needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Report suspected child abuse/neglect cases as required by statute and board policy and notify immediately appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids.</p> </li><li> <p>Work cooperatively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis, referral and remediation of individual students with specialized needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Meet with students, parents, other administrators, and/or consultants as necessary to meet district mission and building vision.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate with parents regularly and document processes used to engage parents in the educational program.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain accurate, complete, and correct registers, records and reports as required by law, board policy, or building procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Build a shared vision of high expectations leading to college and career readiness.</p> </li><li> <p>Hold staff accountable for progress towards stated goals and work to build capacity with staff members.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct difficult conversations in order to improve student results.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop, implement, and monitor outcomes of a School Improvement Plan.</p> </li><li> <p>Comprehensively assess all aspects of school performance through an annual data report.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage budgetary allotments as provided by District Office, making budgetary decisions at the building level that reflect overall school priorities.</p> </li><li> <p>Prioritize use of school time to maximize instructional time in order to achieve school goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Employ current and developing technologies and promote their use.</p> </li><li> <p>Implement a defined curricular scope and sequence.</p> </li><li> <p>Consistently review and assess instructional practices of all teachers in the building.</p> </li><li> <p>Model and implement a data-driven decision-making structure.</p> </li><li> <p>Disaggregate data to determine how school is performing at serving those students traditionally under-served.</p> </li><li> <p>Select, assign, and retain effective teachers.</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently observe staff, provide consistent feedback, and evaluate staff consistent with the School Code and applicable collective bargaining agreement(s).</p> </li><li> <p>Develop a team of instructional leaders to build capacity of all teachers.</p> </li><li> <p>Implement and lead a Professional Learning Community.</p> </li><li> <p>Acknowledge and respond to all communication within 24 hours.</p> </li><li> <p>Follow appropriate protocols as directed by supervisor for time off requests or time away from building and/or department.</p> </li><li> <p>Build ongoing relationships with students, staff, parents, community, and potential business partners.</p> </li><li> <p>Include multiple voices and perspectives in the decision-making process.</p> </li><li> <p>Engage families in the educational program, including hosting a Parental Advisory Council.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate an understanding of the change process and use leadership and facilitation skills to manage it effectively.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate personal resolve and respond effectively to challenges.</p> </li><li> <p>Model equity and dignity by treating all people fairly, equitably, and with respect.</p> </li><li> <p>Engage in courageous conversations about diversity.</p> </li><li> <p>Build a culture of high expectations for every student.</p> </li><li> <p>Link building work of students to college and career opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop, implement, and monitor a student goal setting process.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop a student and staff code of conduct.</p> </li><li> <p>Build capacity of adults to implement a formal social-emotional learning curriculum</p> </li><li> <p>Create a work culture supporting a mindset of effort and grit.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise and lead (or ensures that the event is supervised or led) appropriate after-school activities including, but not limited to:</p> </li><li> <p>Parent nights</p> </li><li> <p>Parent Teacher Conferences</p> </li><li> <p>Plays and Musicals</p> </li><li> <p>Athletic Events (except for elementary level)</p> </li><li> <p>Make referrals to appropriate health and human service agencies.</p> </li><li> <p>Establish the master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students that meet and exceed state standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Attends conferences and serves as representative on various Athletic Boards (high school principal).</p> </li><li> <p>Manages grants, as assigned (elementary principal).</p> </li><li> <p>Encourage each professional staff member to develop a Professional Improvement Plan.</p> </li><li> <p>Recommend to the Superintendent the appointment, renewal, dismissal, withholding of increment, promotion, assignment or other actions for all personnel assigned to the school, following established procedures and timelines.</p> </li><li> <p>Recommend to the Superintendent personnel to fill all vacant positions in the school, following district affirmative action, recruitment and selection procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide opportunities for effective staff development that address the needs of the instructional program and needs of the staff, including workshops, conferences, visitations, and sessions in which the staff shares successful practices and strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly inspect all facilities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations including access for individuals with handicapping conditions.</p> </li><li> <p>Assume responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of students, personnel, and visitors. Develop clearly understood procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters, following State, local, and district guidelines.</p> </li><li> <p>Organize and maintain a public relations system for the school that consistently celebrates and informs parents and the community of the accomplishments of students and staff. The information provided should solicit community and parental support and understanding of the programs and services of the school.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise the production of all school publications.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain and account for all student activity funds and money collected from students in accordance with board policy and auditing recommendations. Correct any audit exceptions immediately.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate with the Superintendent regularly about the needs, successes, and general operation of the school - including, but not limited to monthly one-on-one meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Hold regular staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees.</p> </li><li> <p>Represent the school and district at community, State, and professional meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties in accordance with the law and Board policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Be knowledgeable of and adhere to contractual obligations and the law and regulations, including but not limited to, the Illinois School Code, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, school regulations and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Valid and properly registered Professional Educator License and applicable endorsement, issued by the Illinois State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board, qualifying him or her to act as Principal in the district</p> </li><li> <p>Evidence of physical fitness and freedom from communicable disease</p> </li><li> <p>Successful completion of a criminal background check</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Possess effective oral and written communication skills</p> </li><li> <p>Able to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions</p> </li><li> <p>Skilled in the use of office computer equipment, related software applications, and other standard office machines</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of basic management and supervisory skills</p> </li><li> <p>Able to gather data, compile information, prepare reports, and use to improve performance</p> </li><li> <p>Able to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments</p> </li><li> <p>Able to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community</p> </li><li> <p>Able to attend to detail</p> </li><li> <p>Able to perform multiple concurrent tasks</p> </li><li> <p>Able to set goals and establish methods for achieving these goals</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge in multiple content areas and accompanying pedagogy</p> </li><li> <p>Able to interview, train, orient, and evaluate staff</p> </li></ul> <p>Salary/Benefits</p> <p>Competitive for region and commensurate with experience for position.</p> <p>Additional Notes</p> <p>Physical Demands and Work Environment:</p> <p>The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Rarely, will the administrator be called on to intervene in a physical altercation in order to best ensure student safety.</p> <p>In the work environment, the employee is regularly exposed to video display and regularly works in typical interior/office environmental conditions. The employee is expected to work on nights and weekends if necessary to accomplish the goals of the position.
