<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Department of Music Therapy in the College of Health (COH) at Cleveland State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor to teach in the bachelor's degree program beginning August 18, 2025. CSU is striving to be a nationally recognized and student focused public research institution that provides accessible, affordable, and Engaged Learning opportunities for all.</p> <p>This is an on-campus position and is a 9-month academic year contract with the possibility of a supplemental summer contract.</p> <p>Cleveland State University's music therapy programs are approved by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the university is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).</p> <p>The primary functions of this position are to teach a wide range of undergraduate music therapy courses (including integrated therapeutic musicianship and music theory courses) and to provide effective clinical supervision across clinical practice domains. This position is responsible for fulfilling all required responsibilities as outlined by the American Music Therapy Association standards including program development in accordance with AMTA standards and those as required by NASM. Other duties include assessing student learning, working with faculty colleagues on course development, assisting in student recruitment, working with the student organization, and contributing to service across campus.</p> <p>The successful candidate will be required to maintain music therapy board certification and Ohio Licensure in music therapy. The successful candidate will demonstrate professional knowledge, administrative and management skills, and higher education accreditation experience. Excellent time management, organizational ability, and effective communication skills are required, as are the potential for excellence in online teaching and commitment to online education.</p> <p>The Department of Music Therapy values faculty and staff who can inspire innovation and inclusivity, promote health equity and wellness, and educate with excellence. The department welcomes applicants who are knowledgeable and passionate about working within an urban, cross-cultural learning environment.</p> <p>The Department of Music Therapy is housed in the COH, along with the departments of Health Sciences & Human Performance, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, the School of Nursing, and the School of Social Work. Together, the COH offers more than 23 undergraduate and graduate academic programs in health professions, nursing programs, social work and related certificate programs all designed to provide clinical and experiential learning, interprofessional practice, and scholarship activities. The COH operates two on-site health clinics that provide hands-on training to our students and health care to our communities. The COH deeply understands its role in advancing health equity, uniquely preparing practitioners and clinicians to practice and lead in a rapidly changing healthcare system.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in music therapy completed by July 1, 2025; </li><li>Three years of full-time clinical experience (or its equivalent) as a board-certified music therapist; </li><li>Ohio music therapy licensure (LPMT); </li><li>Board certification in music therapy (MT-BC); </li><li>Experience as a supervisor, trainer, or mentor of music therapists and students; </li><li>Evidence of successful, student-centered teaching of undergraduate courses in music therapy; </li><li>Evidence of excellent musicianship skills in guitar, voice, and piano/keyboard; </li><li>Proficient in music technology and its clinical application. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience in clinical supervision of music therapy students; </li><li>Evidence of post-secondary music theory education; </li><li>Evidence of study in conducting and ensemble leadership; </li><li>Record of academic and/or professional service in music therapy; </li><li>Experience promoting inter-professional education; </li><li>Experience with recruiting in higher education; </li><li>Experience with social media marketing and communication; </li><li>An earned doctorate in music therapy or a related field conferred by August 2025. </li></ul>
