<p>Position Information</p> <p>Position Number S01136 Position Title Associate Dean, Trades & Apprenticeship Division/Portfolio Trades and Apprenticeship Department/Program Portfolio Dean's Office (P4) Location Kelowna Other Flexible Work Options Your Opportunity</p> <p>Under the general direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean provides leadership, oversight and senior management for the Trades and Apprenticeship (T&A) portfolio in keeping with the College's Mission, Vision, Values and Key Directions; assists with the development of goals and strategies and oversight of the operation of T&A including assisting with the management of personnel, finance, identification of new revenue sources, student recruitment and enrollment management, student affairs, program planning, development, marketing and delivery, program advisory committees, policies and regulations, institutional projects, and relationships with other institutions and affiliated organizations.</p> <p>Functions and Duties</p> <ol> <li> <p>Assists with the direction, growth and development of the portfolio and the College. Is a member of the Leadership Team and Deans' Forum. Anticipates, recommends, and contributes to the development of institution-wide policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist the Dean with developing and implementing strategic long-term and short-term plans; operating and capital budgets; the Unit Plan; policies, procedures as well as current and projected Industry Training Authority (ITA) training plans for Trades and Apprenticeship.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists the Dean with planning, directing and coordinating the delivery of the base funded educational programs assigned to the portfolio. Identifying needs for new programs, assessing the feasibility of new initiatives as well as evaluating and modifying existing educational programs and services. Responsible for planning and directing non-base funded courses and programs. Ensures adequate facilities and equipment are available for all programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Subject to the review and approval of the Dean, the Associate Dean conducts Tier 1 Program Review and Renewal Processes. Assists the Dean with monitoring the effective delivery of Trades and Apprenticeship courses and programs. Represents the Dean at Program Advisory Committees (PAC) as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors emerging trends, changes and opportunities that affect Trades and Apprenticeship programming. Prepares and submits reports and statistical data pertaining to Trades and Apprenticeship activities as required. As directed by the Dean, leads the development and implementation of projects, programs and policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors student satisfaction with programs, program delivery and the quality of instruction. The Associate Dean is primarily responsible for the initial response to student complaints subject to Okanagan College policies and collective agreements and advises the Dean as appropriate.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides leadership and supervision of managers and staff within the portfolio. Assists the Dean in developing the capabilities of the portfolio through appropriate hiring, supervision, engagement, training, job performance and development of managers and staff. Leads, guides and motivates staff in maintaining performance standards and customer satisfaction levels.</p> </li><li> <p>Fosters a professional, team-based work environment and works closely with the Dean, Human Resources and employee group representatives in order to build and maintain positive relations. Mentors staff by establishing a respectful working environment, developing a succession plan, coaching, and encouraging high ethical standards and teamwork.</p> </li><li> <p>In collaboration with the Dean cultivates a learner-centered environment and encourages instructional employees to innovate in both curriculum and program development and learning and teaching. Develops and maintains effective communication and coordination both within Trades and Apprenticeship and between Trades and Apprenticeship and the College and community. In the absence of the Dean, chairs the Chairperson meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>In consultation with the Dean, develops and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external groups, including Leadership Team members, administrative departments, Education Council, external agencies, advisory committees, funding agencies, professional associations and community associations.</p> </li><li> <p>As directed by the Dean, represents and promotes the College and its programs on local, provincial and national committees, and liaises with other institutions, British Columbia Association of Trades and Technology Administrators (BCATTA), First Nations groups, government, academic and industry associations, accrediting bodies, school districts, Industry Training Authority (ITA), private sector organizations and various other agencies.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists the Dean with the development, management and reconciliation of the annual operating and capital budgets for the portfolio, forecasting revenues and adjusting expenditures in response to increases or decreases in revenue in order to meet financial and performance targets. Assists the Dean to identify new revenue sources, and solicits equipment and capital donations from industry, business and other external sources, where appropriate.</p> </li><li> <p>Administers and ensures adherence to College policies and collective agreements and participates as needed in the grievance process. Provides input into and may be required to participate on the College's negotiating committees in collective bargaining.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists the Dean with planning and implementing the marketing and promotion of Trades and Apprenticeship programs and services.</p> </li><li> <p>Mitigates institutional risk through risk management techniques and appropriate management practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates on OC committees, and various ad hoc committees, teams, and task forces as appropriate.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensures that employees in the portfolio are familiar with the relevant health and safety regulations and receive proper instruction and training in safe work practices and accident prevention.</p> </li><li> <p>In the absence of the Dean, assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the portfolio.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ol> <p>Education and Experience</p> <p>Master's degree or Trade's Qualification in a relevant field of study.</p> <p>Minimum six years in post-secondary education including at least three years teaching experience. A minimum of three years in management is also preferred. Consideration will be given to equivalent combinations of education and experience.</p> <p>Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated leadership, supervisory and management skills </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills </li><li>Ability to liaise with business and industry </li><li>Ability to plan and think strategically at a senior level </li><li>Technical competence at a senior level in finance </li><li>Recognized project management skills </li><li>Excellent organizational, administrative and problem-solving skills </li><li>Strong technical and analytical skills </li><li>Team player with honesty and integrity and an aptitude for working in a collaborative environment </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications Desired Start Date 07/02/2025 Position End Date (if temporary) Schedule</p> <p>Hours of work for senior managers and administrators vary depending on the nature of the position occupied and the College's operational needs. Senior managers and administrators are expected to work the hours that are required to meet their obligations to the College. Full-time senior managers and administrators normally work thirty-five (35) hours per week, Monday through Friday, but additional hours and flexibility are required from time to time.</p> <p>Annual Salary/Hourly Rate Range $111,289 to $170,643. Typical hiring range is $133,546 to $148,385.
