<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Middle School Teaching/Mathematics</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>2/18/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Polk County Middle School</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>Middle School Core Subject Teacher</p> <p>Position Code:</p> <p>Department:Polk County Middle School</p> <p>FLSA:Exempt</p> <p>Reports to:Principal</p> <p>Supervises:N/A</p> <p>Job Summary: To provide high quality, active learning experiences for PCMS students in a safe, caring, and respectful environment by implementing the essential functions listed below.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Plan developmentally appropriate lessons and learning activities that address the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCS). Appropriate planning includes: </li><li>Developing a yearly plan/pacing chart aligned to the NCSCS. </li><li>Designing unit plans and lesson plans that support the yearly plan. </li><li>Differentiating instructional plans for at-risk and for academically talented students. </li><li>Planning for appropriate materials use, field trips, and other special learning events that support and enhance instructional goals. </li><li>Preparing clear lesson plans and instructions for substitutes. </li><li>Deliver well-organized, well-connected, smoothly flowing lessons that require active student participation and that students understand. </li><li>Effectively manage student behavior. </li><li>Develop, teach, and implement a classroom management/student behavior plan. </li><li>Create a respect-for-all environment in the classroom and throughout the school. </li><li>Monitor student behavior throughout the school day: classroom, class changes and lunch. </li><li>Administer consistent, appropriate interventions for student misbehavior. </li><li>Maintain student and teacher dignity at all times. </li><li>Realize that student behavior issues are additional opportunities to teach a child. </li><li>Analyze test data and other diagnostic information and use this information in planning. </li><li>Use assessment as an integral element in instruction. Check student work and provide feedback in a timely manner. </li><li>Be knowledgeable of and use current technologies in planning, communications, and in instruction. </li><li>Work cooperatively with all staff members and consistently maintain a professional attitude. </li><li>Make parent contacts an important element in the overall learning experience. </li><li>Maintain accurate records and submit reports and other information in a timely manner. </li><li>Perform all assigned non-instructional duties. </li><li>Understand and comply with laws and policies. </li><li>Develop a plan for professional growth aligned to school improvement goals and personal professional growth. </li><li>Actively participate in school and county staff development activities.. </li><li>Develop and maintain a teacher portfolio that contains evidence/artifacts relating to job performance. </li><li>Maintain high performance expectations for all students. </li><li>Demonstrate a sincerely caring attitude toward students. </li><li>Demonstrate an understanding that flexibility is a key element in the successful operation of a school. </li></ul> <p>Other Functions:</p> <ol> <li>Other duties as assigned by the principal. </li></ol> <p>Education, Experience, and Skills Required:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Have or be eligible for NC licensure in middle school subject area of assignment</p> </li><li> <p>Previous experience with middle school students preferred</p> </li></ol> <p>Terms of Employment:10 months - Teacher Salary Scale</p> <p>Evaluation:</p> <p>Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board of Education policy, North Carolina statutes, and goals established by the Principal.</p> <p>Environmental Factors:</p> <p>This position requires walking and moderate lifting. Must have the ability to stand up for an extended time.</p>
