We are committed to supporting educators through a strong induction and mentorship program, educator-driven professional development, and opportunities for professional growth and advancement.</p> <p>As a district, we are also committed to supporting the whole child by promoting a trusting, mutually respectful and inspiring culture that values the individuality of our students and the professionalism of the field.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Excellent musicianship and artistry as a teacher/performer </li><li>Strong understanding of string bass pedagogy </li><li>Experience working with children from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds </li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills </li><li>Self-motivated and willing to collaborate in a team-teaching environment </li><li>At least 2 years of prior teaching experience preferred </li><li>Bachelor's or equivalent degree in String Bass Performance or Music Education Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Develop and teach engaging group string bass lessons that:</p> <ul> <li>Establish routines and encourage development of strong fundamental skills </li><li>Incorporate a variety of strategies (movement, ear training, music reading) and activities (exercises, games, demonstration, listening, etc) </li><li>Maintain excellent classroom management </li><li>Adapt to the needs of students at various levels and with various learning styles </li><li>Encourage peer teaching </li><li>Collaborating closely with the Administration and faculty to achieve program-wide learning goals </li><li>Maintaining a positive and nurturing classroom environment </li><li>Setting and maintaining high standards for student behavior and music learning </li><li>Enforcing program rules and policies </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment:</p> <p>Seasonal/Yearly Employment</p> <p>Location: Somerville High School</p> <p>$40 per hour worked</p> <p>Mandatory Orientation and Professional Development Days: TBD</p> <p>Program Schedule:</p> <p>Monday through Friday</p> <p>Start Date: July 14, 2025</p> <p>End Date: July 25, 2025</p> <p>Hours: 8:30am - 12:30pm</p> <p>Position Reports to: Director of Summer Music Camp, Co-Directors of Summer Programming & Supervisor of K-12 Music</p> <p>The Somerville Public School does not discriminate in its programs, facilities or employment of educational opportunities on the basis of race, color, age, religion, disability, pregnancy, home status, marital/civil union status, sex/gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, citizenship status, place of birth, national origin, ancestry, cultural identity, genetics or military status, and does not tolerate any form of retaliation, or bias-based intimidation, threat or harassment that demeans individuals' group or interferes with their ability to learn or work.</p>
