<p>Job Details</p> <p>(SUBJECT TO FUNDING AVAILABILITY)</p> <p>POSITION:</p> <p>Teacher Assigned A</p> <p>Itinerant Special Education Teacher Teachers</p> <p>(ONE YEAR POSITION)</p> <p>LOCATION:</p> <p>Itinerant Special Education Teacher positions. Assignments may include provision of service to preschool-age and school-age students and will be itinerant, where possible in contiguous districts, but in all cases, one borough only. This position will have a focus on provision of services to students with Individualized Education Services Plans (IESPs). Positions available in all boroughs. The positions report to the Special Education Office and are assigned primarily to nonpublic school settings, including private and religious schools, preschool programs, day cares and Head Start programs. Assignments subject to change, within the same borough, dependent on caseload and student enrollment.</p> <p>ELIGIBILITY:</p> <ul> <li>Current New York State certified special education teacher </li></ul> <p>SELECTION CRITERIA:</p> <ul> <li>Willing and able to provide both group and individual SEIT and/or SETSS to students attending non-public preschools, day cares, Head Start programs, nonpublic elementary schools and secondary schools within their school of attendance and/or at NYCPS service sites </li><li>Preference given to special education teachers with a bilingual extension who are proficient in Yiddish </li><li>Knowledge of the continuum of services, the special education process, regulations of the NYSED Commissioner, regulations of the NYCPS Chancellor </li><li>Ability to communicate with families, agencies and school personnel. </li><li>Ability to articulate relationship between SEIT and learning outcomes and/or SETSS and academic outcomes and contribute to quality IEP/IESP development. </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate with nonpublic and religious school stakeholders, IEP/IESP team and CPSE/CSE team, (including parents) and other disciplines as necessary. </li><li>Willingness to develop and present professional development and parent training opportunities. </li><li>Strong organization and time management skills. </li><li>Proficiency in the use of NYCPS systems related to special education. </li><li>Understanding of how to support students diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. </li></ul> <p>DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Reporting to the IESP Unit within the Special Education Office, Itinerant Special Education Teacher Assigned will perform the following duties and responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide SEIT/SETSS in accordance with IEP/IESP mandates to students in multiple private/religious nonpublic schools, preschool programs, day cares and Head Start programs within a district or borough. Service provision will take place in the students' schools or in NYCPS service sites.</p> </li><li> <p>Liaise with CPSE/CSE field personnel regarding provision of service to students.</p> </li><li> <p>Integrate provision of SEIT/SETSS into the student's classroom and natural learning environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Consult with school and supervisory staff on matters relating to SEIT/SETSS and specialized instruction, including methodology, adjustments to the learning environment, modifying instructional methods and developing individual goals and objectives for students as per IEP/IESP.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in multidisciplinary and parent conferences to discuss student progress and provide recommendations for service delivery in the least restrictive environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct classroom observations, educational assessments, prepare written reports, attend IEP/IESP meetings, and develop IEPs and/or IESPs for preschool-aged and school-aged students with disabilities and/or suspected disabilities, and participate in the kindergarten IEP process for preschool students.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate on development of quality IEPs and IESPs.</p> </li><li> <p>Train & collaborate with classroom staff, including paraprofessionals, regarding student-specific interventions as well classroom-based interventions, at both the early childhood and school-age level.</p> </li><li> <p>Consult with school personnel on tiered classroom supports.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in CPSE/CSE and Impartial Hearing meetings as necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Act as district representative at CSE meetings</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain contemporaneous Encounter Attendance records, as directed.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain all related information in specified NYCPS information systems</p> </li><li> <p>Other related duties consistent with this posting SALARY: As per UFT collective Bargaining Agreement WORK SCHEDULE:</p> </li><li> <p>8:00 am-4:00 pm or 8:30 am-4:30 pm, depending on site assignment schedule.</p> </li><li> <p>Applicable for one school year term, reapplying and selection process will take place and at the approval of supervisor.</p> </li><li> <p>Adequate travel time will be incorporated into daily work schedule.</p> </li><li> <p>The work year of a teacher assigned whose work is preponderantly connected with schools and school year instructional programs, shall be the same work year as a day school teacher and in addition the teacher assigned will be required to serve a week during the winter recess, spring recess or the summer vacation period through June 30.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan for the 5 additional workdays per UFT contract</p> </li></ul> <p>APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:</p> <p>Send resume, cover letter, and borough(s) of preference to IESPUnitHiring@schools.nyc.gov no later than MAY 22, 2025.</p> <p>It is the policy of the Department of Education of the City of New York to provide equal employment opportunities without regard to actual or perceived race, color, religion, creed, ethnicity, national origin, alienage, citizenship status, age, marital status, partnership status, disability, sexual orientation, gender (sex), military status, unemployment status, caregiver status, consumer credit history, prior record of arrest or conviction (except as permitted by law), predisposing genetic characteristics, or status as a victim of domestic violence, sexual offenses and stalking, and to maintain an environment free of harassment on any of the above-noted grounds, including sexual harassment or retaliation.
