As the model of best correctional practices, we strive to return productive citizens to our communities and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity, and professionalism.</p> <p>Role Overview:</p> <p>The Release Specialist works in the Sentencing/Release Section of the Classification Division of the Department of Correction. This position reports to the Sentence Computation/Release Unit Director through the Release Working Leader. The Release Specialist is responsible for reviewing and authorizing all releases to parole, court supervision, discharges, and community transition from assigned facilities to ensure all offenders are released correctly from the Department of Correction. The Release Specialist also processes all sentence modifications, and new sentences and enters all release time actions in the Offender Information System for assigned facilities to ensure that all offender release dates are calculated correctly. The role also functions as a resource for facility staff.</p> <p>Salary Statement:</p> <p>The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.</p> <p>A Day in the Life:</p> <p>The essential functions of this role are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>Review all release information submitted for assigned facilities as well as information which is available in the Offender Management System, INCite system, and the scanning system, to ensure that each release is in compliance with policy, procedure, and state law. </li><li>Send a Release Authorization to the facility when all issues regarding releases are resolved. </li><li>Enter data in the Offender Management System like commitments, release credit actions, discharge actions, parole actions, etc. for assigned facilities in accordance with the established policy, procedure, and state law. </li><li>Ensure all available documentation is reviewed and verified when entering or modifying sentencing information or authorizing the release of offenders from the Department of Correction. </li><li>Act as a resource person for assigned facilities when questions arise regarding release, credit time, and sentencing issues. </li><li>Respond to correspondence from court, offenders, or other interested agencies or interested parties. </li><li>Responsible for reviewing all release information submitted for assigned facilities as well as information that is available in the Offender Information Systems and the scanning system, to ensure that each release in compliance with policy, procedure and state law. </li><li>Responsible for sending a Release Authorization to the facility when all issues regarding releases are resolved. These duties must be completed at least one (1) working day prior to the scheduled release date of the offender. This is performed daily. </li><li>Responsible for entering new commitments and amended commitments into the Offender Information System for assigned facilities in accordance with the established policy, procedure and state law. If the release date is within thirty (30) working days or if the change results in release within thirty (30) days this must be completed within one (1) working day of receipt of the change of commitment, otherwise this task is to be completed within one (1) week of receiving the documentation this can occur on a daily basis. </li><li>Responsible for entering the release credit actions into the Offender Information System and ensuring that the credit time has been calculated correctly. Release actions are entered on the day of release or the first working day after release. Other types of actions that may be entered include discharge actions, parole actions, and credit time restorations. These actions are entered on a daily basis. </li><li>Responsible for establishing a good working relationship with court and staff at assigned facilities to ensure that all available documentation is verified and considered when entering or modifying sentencing information or authorizing the release of offenders from the Department of Correction. These duties occur on a daily basis. </li><li>Responsible for acting as a resource person for assigned facilities when questions arise regarding release, credit time and sentencing issues. This occurs on an ongoing basis. </li><li>Responsible for responding to correspondence from court, offenders or other interested agencies or interested parties. This occurs on an ongoing basis. </li><li>Responsible for completing other duties as assigned by the Working Leaders, Director of the Sentence Computation/Release Unit or Executive Director of the Classification Division.
