You will play a critical role in helping students navigate the academic and personal challenges of pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering. Advisors are dedicated to empowering students to be active responsible learners while guiding students to make well-informed decisions that lead to the achievement of their educational, career and life goals.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Advise and support undergraduate students in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics </li><li>Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to support student success and retention </li><li>Assist with the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that support student success </li><li>Create an open, respectful, and inclusive environment by using an equity-minded, student-centered practice that emphasizes mutual respect, dignity, self-awareness, and authenticity </li><li>Center the student in an asset-framed approach where advising provides educational guidance to meet students where they are and acknowledges the critical value of each student's unique social capital </li><li>Empower students to be active responsible learners and assist them in making well-informed decisions </li><li>Guide students in course selection and the process for registering for courses </li><li>Identify campus activities, programs, and opportunities related to students' educational and career goals </li><li>Maintain a consistent pattern of contact and communications with assigned students </li><li>Use data to provide timely outreach to students on their academic progress and conduct audits on student's degree progress </li><li>Assess when a student's situation requires referral to campus resources </li><li>Maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records </li><li>Teach students about the university's structure, systems, policies, and practices </li></ul> <p>About Us:</p> <p>The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics has more than 1,200 students, all of whom are passionate and excited about designing the next rocket to Mars or the next supersonic aircraft. We like working and problem-solving together.</p> <p>For more information, please visit: https://engineering.purdue.edu/AAE/academics/undergraduate</p> <p>What We're Looking For:</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in a field relevant to the position </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. </li><li>Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, current and prospective students, parents, and families. </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Ability to problem solve and utilize campus resources for individuals and groups. </li><li>Ability and willingness to work in a changing environment. </li><li>Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Student Services, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or field related to the majors advised </li><li>One year of student advising, recruitment, or other student-facing experience </li><li>Knowledge of undergraduate student development and recruitment. </li><li>Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University. </li><li>Knowledge of field related to majors advised. </li></ul> <p>As an Academic Advisor for the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our students.
