<p>Instructional Assistant, Math (Upward Bound Math & Science)</p> <p>Department: Upward Bound Math/Science</p> <p>Location: Metropolitan Campus</p> <p>Reports To: Program Manager</p> <p>Recruitment Type: External/Internal</p> <p>Requisition ID: req5482</p> <p>Employment Type: Part-Time Support Staff</p> <p>Union Position: Non-Union</p> <p>Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 3:30-6:30 pm and some Saturdays</p> <p>Number of Openings: 1</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>SUMMARY</p> <p>Provides academic support in various subjects for participants of the TRIO Student Support Services program. Works directly with students assisting in one-on-one small group, and classroom settings. Monitors, tracks, and evaluates the learning and progress of participants to promote student success. Supports the Program's objectives and initiatives as directed.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Conduct one-on-one and small group tutoring in Math, Science, or related subjects virtually or in-person </li><li>Diagnoses student tutorial needs and evaluates participant progress resulting from tutoring </li><li>Assists in the development of educational action plans </li><li>Communicates student barriers and challenges with the TRIO Student Support Services Program staff </li><li>Conducts educational workshops </li><li>Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress and tutoring sessions </li><li>Works with and/or demonstrates various types of audio-visual materials, computer applications, and other materials or delivery systems used in an instructional program </li><li>Facilitates the learning process by conducting workshops and presentations for students enrolled in high-risk courses </li><li>Meets with faculty regarding student progress and course content/materials, as needed </li><li>Assists in the recruitment and retention of program students </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Math or a related field </li><li>Minimum of two years of experience teaching or tutoring Math and Science to academically underprepared students </li><li>Demonstrated previous success in motivating and encouraging students </li><li>Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team </li><li>Demonstrated experience requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Possess basic knowledge of fundamental Mathematic/English/Science concepts with the ability to apply in various situations </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of exemplary instructional methods and practices </li><li>Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills </li><li>Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to providing exemplary customer service </li><li>Possess intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint </li><li>Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail </li><li>Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment </li><li>Ability to work in a fast paced and high volume and service environment </li><li>Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships </li><li>Ability to utilize critical thinking to identify and implement efficiencies within daily operations </li><li>Possess knowledge and ability to effectively and appropriately interact with students with varying linguistic and cultural backgrounds at the post-secondary level </li><li>Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population </li></ul> <p>COMPETENCIES</p> <p>CRITICAL COMPETENCIES</p> <ul> <li>Service Focus </li><li>Communication </li><li>Adaptability </li></ul> <p>VERY IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES</p> <ul> <li>Time Utilization </li><li>Continuous Improvement </li></ul> <p>IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES</p> <ul> <li>Collaboration </li><li>Quality of Work </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree </li><li>Demonstrated teaching experience </li><li>Demonstrated experience working or participating in TRIO or related programs </li><li>Possess strong competency with Microsoft Office </li><li>Demonstrated experience with the implementation of supplemental instruction or collaborative learning groups </li><li>Demonstrated experience with student tracking databases (such as BANNER, BLUMEN, etc.) </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>(The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
