<p>Job Description:</p> <p>SUNY Maritime's Waterfront seeks a Head Sailing Coach for our After-School High School Sailing Team (Spring & Fall) and Adventure (middle & high school) Sailing (Fall only) programs. Head coaches will supervise After-School Coaches in teaching and coaching sailing for 6th-12th graders of mixed abilities, beginners through experienced racers, in dinghies (RS Quests, FJs, and 420s), keelboats (IC24s, J105), and catamarans (Hobie Waves). Head coaches will also organize and plan practice sessions, clinics, and regattas.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Prepare all sailing practice plans (including plans for inclement weather) </li><li>Coach/teach beginner, intermediate, and learn-to-race sailing to 6th-12th grade sailors </li><li>Serve as a supervisor and mentor to After-School Sailing Coaches </li><li>Help ensure a safe and fun learning environment </li><li>Evaluate and adjust curriculum, lesson plans, and activities, as needed </li><li>Host high school regattas and clinics (scheduled Saturdays) </li><li>Prepare, maintain, and properly clean and stow all equipment including: fueling powerboats, setting/retrieving marks, ensuring sailboats are properly rigged/derigged, and maintaining classroom space </li><li>Other duties as assigned by the Waterfront Staff </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience teaching and/or coaching youth sailors </li><li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with a high school aged audience and their parents </li><li>Willingness to collaborate as a team player and take initiative as a leader </li><li>Schedule that allows for commitment to the season </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>US Sailing Level 1 or 2 Instructor or Level 3 Head Instructor Certification </li><li>US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling </li><li>Some knowledge of ISSA procedures, regatta management </li><li>Lifeguard certification </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Classification and Compensation:</p> <ul> <li>$20/hr - $50/hr, commensurate with experience </li></ul> <p>Review of applications will commence immediately and conclude when position is filled.</p> <p>Special Notes: FLSA non-exempt position that is eligible for overtime monies.</p> <p>Budget Title: Technical Specialist (CSL)</p> <p>Local Title: Head After-School Sailing Coach</p> <p>Line Number: 16488</p> <p>Tentative Schedule:</p> <ul> <li>High School Sailing (Spring & Fall): Mondays and Fridays, 3:30 pm - 7:00 pm </li><li>Adventure Sailing (Fall only): Tuesdays, 3:30 pm - 7:00 pm </li><li>1-2 Saturdays for regattas </li></ul> <p>Tentative Season Dates:</p> <ul> <li>Spring: April 11 - May 19 </li><li>Fall: Sept 8 - Oct 27 </li></ul> <p>For those desiring additional information, please contact the Waterfront at waterfront@sunymaritime.edu.</p> <p>SUNY Maritime College is an Equal Opportunity/Veterans/Disabled/Affirmative Action employer, committed to recruiting, supporting and fostering a diverse community of outstanding faculty, staff and students.
