<p>Department/Unit:</p> <p>Client Services Patient Lab</p> <p>Work Shift:</p> <p>Day (United States of America)</p> <p>Salary Range:</p> <p>$37,440.00 - $48,672.00</p> <p>Courier - Lab</p> <p>The Laboratory Courier (LC) delivers supplies and reports to laboratory clients and picks up, transports, and delivers routine and expedited specimens from the client sites to the laboratory. The Courier ensures that the quality of specimens is maintained throughout the transport process and keeps specimen-tracking logs. This position also functions as a liaison between Laboratory Client Service and staff at client sites. This individual is responsible for keeping the transport vehicle clean and orderly.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Include but not limited to the following:</p> <ul> <li>Drives safely and follows all related laws. </li><li>Transports specimens, reports, equipment and supplies to various locations in a reliable and timely fashion. Follows the assigned courier run within the designated time frame. </li><li>Communicates effectively with nursing staff, physicians and other staff at the client site(s) and maintains a professional relationship with Client Service staff. </li><li>Completes daily logs of destinations and times. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty as outlined in the attached annual competency assessment and maintain an acceptable driving record. Where feasible, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the job's essential functions.</p> <p>EDUCATION:</p> <p>High School Diploma</p> <p>EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Must possess a New York driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.</p> <p>COMMUNICATION SKILLS:</p> <p>The courier will exhibit the following traits or abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. </li><li>Uses effective written and verbal communication skills to cooperatively work with customers and employees. </li><li>Listens well, takes direction and engages in interactive dialogues with others. </li><li>Seeks the input of others to achieve consensus. </li><li>Comprehends, remembers and carries out instructions. The individual communicates any questions to a preceptor or Supervisor as needed. </li><li>Communicates effectively with nursing staff, physicians and other staff at the client site(s) and maintains a professional relationship with Client Service staff. </li><li>Conducts telephone and personal inquiries to any of the laboratory's customers with courtesy, respect and confidentiality. </li></ul> <p>MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:</p> <p>Ability to:</p> <p>Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.</p> <p>PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:</p> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Accomplishes tasks in a specified time, prioritizes and makes decisions and effectively provides feedback. </li><li>Demonstrates knowledge of all applicable policies and procedures </li><li>Maintains competency and assumes responsibility for continuing education relevant to responsibilities. </li><li>Improves job performance through continuing education and productive feedback. </li><li>Demonstrates cooperation and flexibility in continually meeting client needs. </li><li>Performs job duties in an honest, punctual and ethical manner. </li><li>Responds positively to changes in scheduling in conjunction with departmental needs </li><li>Adapts to new standards in technology. </li><li>Serves as a positive role model for other staff by following accepted departmental guidelines such as wearing appropriate attire and maintaining personal hygiene, limiting personal phone calls, attending departmental in-services, completing specific mandatory in-services, assisting with training of new staff members and following break and mealtime limits. </li><li>Exercises good judgment by making appropriate decisions and thorough follow through. </li><li>Accepts constructive criticism in a professional manner and carries out directions </li><li>Contributes to the teamwork of the department by being helpful to co-workers and avoiding unnecessary conflict. </li><li>Transports specimens, reports, equipment and supplies to various locations in a reliable and timely fashion. Follows the assigned courier run within the designated time frame. </li><li>Maintains specimen integrity during transport. </li><li>Accommodates STAT pickups as requested/instructed by a Client Service representative. </li><li>Keeps the courier vehicle in a clean and well-maintained condition. </li><li>Drives safely and follows all related laws. </li><li>Maintains courier manifests and follows established SOP for use of lockboxes and door tags. </li><li>Completes daily logs of destinations and times. Makes suggestions for improvement or changes to schedules and/or routes to improve efficiency and meet customer needs. </li><li>Prepares and delivers customer supply orders. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The courier may be required to work, (day, evening or night shifts) including weekends, holidays and on-call. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to infectious and hazardous chemicals as outlined in the department's Chemical Hygiene Plan.</p> <p>The noise level of the department is moderate to high.
