<p>White Plains Hospital Job Description</p> <p>Title:</p> <p>Nursing Technician</p> <p>Job Code: 500344</p> <p>Department/Location:</p> <p>Department Specific</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-exempt</p> <p>Reports to:</p> <p>Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Nursing Technician performs patient care and non-patient care functions within their scope of practice under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Duties include but are not limited to ADL's, vital signs, I&O, performing EKGs, documentation of vital signs and I & O, simple dressing changes, specimen collection, assisting with meals, errands, transporting of patients, medications, or specimens, ambulating of patients, urinary drainage care (indwelling, external and suprapubic), assists with colostomy care, applies binders, weighs patients, assists health care providers with procedures and physical exams, and other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:</p> <ul> <li>Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. </li><li>Performs tasks listed in job summary according to policy and procedure. </li><li>Integrates patient's rights into work practice. </li><li>Utilizes current methods of infection control. </li><li>Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives. </li><li>Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision-making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit-based issues. </li><li>Collaborates and communicates with the health care team. </li><li>Completes competency requirements. </li><li>Attends mandatory in-services. </li><li>Attends staff meetings as required/ requested. </li><li>Utilizes cost containment practices. </li><li>Adheres to all WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and submission of annual physical. </li><li>Performs all other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Education & Experience Requirements</p> <ul> <li></li><li>High School Diploma/Equivalency required </li><li>Previous experience in hospital or with patient care preferred </li><li>Successful completion of the Nursing Technician Orientation </li><li>As of April 1st, 2017, BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all Nursing Technicians. </li><li>Nursing Technicians must have their BLS upon hire or obtain within 6 months. </li><li>Nursing Technicians that will be trained to read the monitors require the 4-day EKG class </li><li>Nursing Technicians in the Emergency Department must complete de-escalation training within 1 year of hire or transfer to the Emergency Room. </li></ul> <p>Core Competencies</p> <ul> <li></li><li>Excellent Communication Skills (written & verbal) </li><li>Teamwork </li><li>Adaptability </li><li>Strong Problem Solving, Judgment & Decision-Making Skills </li><li>Stress Tolerance </li></ul> <p>Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment</p> <ul> <li></li><li>May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. </li><li>Must be able to move about the department and hospital constantly while attending to needs of patients, visitors, and staff. </li><li>Requires continuous communication with patients, staff, and visitors of all educational levels. </li><li>Requires frequent use of computers and other office equipment. </li><li>Required to move objects up to fifty (50) pounds and must be able to move patients of all weights with a minimum assist of one (1) or assistive device/equipment per White Plains Hospital Safe Patient Handling Policy. </li><li>Must be able to rapidly assess and respond to situational needs of patients, staff, and visitors. </li><li>Must be able to adapt to a high stress environment with frequent interruptions. </li></ul> <p>Primary Population Served</p> <p>Check appropriate box(s) below:</p> <ul> <li>Neonatal (birth - 28 days) </li><li>Patients with exceptional communication needs </li><li>Infant (29 days - less than 1 year) </li><li>Patients with developmental delays </li><li>Pediatric (1 - 12 years) </li><li>Patients at end of life </li><li>Adolescent (13 - 17 years) </li><li>Patients under isolation precautions </li><li>Adult (18 - 64 years) </li><li>Patients with cultural needs </li><li>Geriatric (> 65 years) </li></ul> <p>X All populations</p> <ul> <li>Bariatric Patients with weight related comorbidities </li><li>Non-patient care population </li></ul> <p>The responsibilities and tasks outlined in this job description are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of White Plains Hospital.</p> <p>Salary Range: $42,880.30 - $64,320.56 (Based on FT employment)</p>
