<p>Overview</p> <p>As a Software Engineer III at Fanatics Betting & Gaming (FBG), you will independently design, build, and maintain the backend systems that power world-class customer experiences. You'll take ownership of services, APIs, and infrastructure that scale with our growing platform. Whether you're returning to work or advancing your career, you'll bring strong backend expertise, a growth mindset, and a passion for solving complex problems in a fast-paced, high-growth industry.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Independently design, develop, test, document, and deploy reliable backend services and APIs </li><li>Participate in the on-call rotation and lead incident response and root cause analysis for production issues </li><li>Collaborate cross-functionally with product, frontend, DevOps, and data teams to deliver backend features end-to-end </li><li>Perform and lead code reviews with a focus on backend design, performance, and maintainability </li><li>Influence and contribute to system architecture, data modeling, and backend scalability strategies </li><li>Champion engineering excellence by driving improvements to backend development practices and tooling </li><li>Develop a deep understanding of our domain, systems, and customer needs to inform backend decisions </li><li>Stay up to date with backend technologies, cloud infrastructure, and modern development patterns </li><li>Open to occasional travel to FBG offices or industry events for collaboration and team-building </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>5-8 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development </li><li>3+ years of experience building scalable backend systems using Java (Spring Framework preferred) </li><li>Deep understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and API design </li><li>Proficiency with relational and/or NoSQL databases, data modeling, and caching strategies </li><li>Experience working in Agile/SCRUM teams and cross-functional environments </li><li>Strong grasp of software engineering principles, architectural patterns, and system design </li><li>Clear communicator with the ability to articulate complex backend concepts across teams </li><li>Ownership mentality with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to drive solutions independently </li><li>Adaptability to shifting priorities in a high-growth, fast-paced environment </li><li>Collaborative mindset with a desire to mentor and elevate other engineers </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience re-entering the workforce or transitioning into tech from adjacent fields </li><li>Interest in mentoring junior engineers and sharing backend best practices </li><li>Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), and DevOps workflows </li><li>Background in building systems in high-availability, high-traffic environments </li><li>Comfortable working within a scaling organization or startup-like setting </li></ul> <p>If you meet many, but not all, of these qualifications, we still encourage you to apply!</p>
