<p>Job Description</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>A doula is a trained individual who provides informational, emotional and physical support to a pregnant person before, during and after delivery. BIPOC doulas are individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous or other Person of Color.</p> <p>Guides pregnant person/family through the birthing process to provide emotional, physical and informational support. Works with the family at the hospital during the labor & birth process and postpartum. Administers care to designated patients and provides support to the care team under the direction of the clinical nurse. Serves as a liason between clinical, medical staff and underserved patients and/or families. Assures care of patients and families is reflective of IU Health's values.</p> <ul> <li>Part-Time, 24 hours/week </li><li>Weekend Nights; Saturday and Sunday,7:00p - 7:30a </li><li>Orientation will be on weekdays; 3, 8 hour shifts/week </li><li>Requires every 4th weekend and a holiday rotation </li><li>Prefer candidates with Doula training/experience or experience supporting families in a hospital setting </li><li>Second language fluency is preferred, specifically looking for Haitian Creole, Burmese Dialect or Spanish </li><li>High School Diploma/GED is required. </li><li>Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience. </li><li>Requires experience and desire in serving BIPOC communities (Black, Indigenous, People of Color). </li><li>Requires knowledge and cultural understanding of target communities. </li><li>Requires high level of oral and written fluency in English and target languages. </li><li>May provide support to Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, families, and medical staff providing care. </li><li>May require Medical Interpreter Certification when applicable. </li><li>Preferred Birth Doula Certification from accredited organizations. DONA (Doula Organization of North America) certification required within 24 months of hire date, with IU Health assistance. </li><li>Preferred CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) certification or completion of certification within 12 months of hire </li></ul>
