Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the patient care unit environment. Ensures patient assignments are based on staff competency and skill sets. Communicates with the multidisciplinary team including physicians, nursing staff, care management, ancillary departments, etc. continuously and as needed about patient condition. Assists with milieu management. Ensures flow of patients from the emergency department, removes obstacles that hold up admissions or discharges. Participates in performance improvement activities. Supervises unit nursing staff, assists with staff scheduling.
