<p>Overview</p> <p>The Middlesex County Public Health Department is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to assist in communicable disease investigations throughout the county. This Communicable Disease Investigator position plays a key role in protecting public health by identifying, interviewing, educating, and following up with individuals who may have been exposed to communicable diseases. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be comfortable conducting fieldwork in diverse communities, and be committed to public health outreach and education.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Locate and interview individuals potentially exposed to communicable diseases using information from health records and contacts already under treatment.</p> </li><li> <p>Advise individuals to seek medical evaluation and treatment from private physicians or public health clinics.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct interviews to gather information on additional contacts who may have been exposed.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform follow-up interviews with patients and suspected carriers of disease.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct home visits within Middlesex County to support investigations and ensure compliance with public health guidance.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare clear and comprehensive reports detailing activities, contacts, findings, and referrals.</p> </li><li> <p>Visit physicians, laboratories, and community health centers to encourage and support disease reporting.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide individuals with educational materials and guidance on diseases, treatment options, fees, immunization programs, and other health services.</p> </li><li> <p>Collect non-invasive specimens (e.g., urine) as needed for diagnostic or investigative purposes.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitate referrals and ensure follow-up care through coordination with healthcare providers or public health personnel.</p> </li><li> <p>Utilize electronic and/or manual information systems for data entry, case tracking, and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in Public Health or a related field preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>One year of experience in public health, epidemiology, or a related area preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent communication and interviewing skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, community-based setting.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new data systems and health tracking software.</p> </li></ul> <p>Middlesex County is an equal opportunity employer, all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status, or any other characteristic protected by law.</p>
