<p>GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS</p> <p>The purpose of the class is to perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment; to provide instruction and leadership of subordinate mechanics in the absence of the HVAC Supervisor, and to perform related work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. Position reports to HVA Supervisor.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL TASKS</p> <p>The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.</p> <p>Installs, maintains and repairs HVAC and refrigeration equipment in designated County buildings and facilities.</p> <p>Provides training, leadership, advice and assistance to co-workers as needed; ensures that all work orders are completed correctly and in a timely manner.</p> <p>Monitors computerized heating and cooling systems; runs chemical analyses to ensure proper working condition.</p> <p>Performs preventive maintenance of all equipment and systems.</p> <p>Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment and system problems and failures; schedules and performs repair work or parts replacement as necessary.</p> <p>Assists supervisor in planning and coordinating major installation and maintenance projects as requested.</p> <p>Maintains assigned tools and equipment.</p> <p>Maintains accurate records on maintenance/repair work completed.</p> <p>Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of safety and quality; ensures the timely completion of all assignments.</p> <p>Attends training, workshops, meetings, etc., as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.</p> <p>INVOLVEMENT WITH DATA, PEOPLE, AND THINGS</p> <p>DATA INVOLVEMENT:</p> <p>Requires computing or performing arithmetic operations using data or information.</p> <p>PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT:</p> <p>Requires giving information, guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to helpers or assistants.</p> <p>INVOLVEMENT WITH THINGS:</p> <p>Requires leading, operating or repairing complex machinery or equipment that requires extended training and experience, such as HVAC equipment, electronic equipment, heavy shop equipment; may involve installation and testing. Involves operations of limited scope.</p> <p>COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>REASONING REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Requires performing skilled work involving rules/systems with almost constant problem-solving.</p> <p>MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Requires using basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving plane and solid figures, circumferences, areas and volumes.</p> <p>LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Requires reading technical instructions, procedures, manuals and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.</p> <p>MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Requires doing clerical, manual or technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure.</p> <p>VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION</p> <p>VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:</p> <p>Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in HVAC maintenance or a closely related field.</p> <p>SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:</p> <p>Must possess a valid state driver's license.</p> <p>Must possess journeyman certification in HVAC; must possess Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Requires over two years and up to and including four years.</p> <p>AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Requires medium-to-heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, reaching, pushing or raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Requires climbing and working from ladders.</p> <p>ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:</p> <p>The job may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, toxic/caustic chemicals.</p> <p>SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>The job requires normal visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, and color perception.</p> <p>JUDGMENTS AND DECISIONS</p> <p>JUDGMENTS AND DECISIONS:</p> <p>Responsible for guiding others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.</p> <p>ADA COMPLIANCE</p> <p>Richland County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
