Posting Number 20162787F Job Description</p> <p>The Ohio University Department of English seeks a Visiting Professor with a deep commitment to student success and to fostering the growth and development of student reading and writing. Field of primary specialization is open, but candidates should have experience teaching at least one and preferably more than one of the following: creative writing; lower-division literature courses in prose fiction and nonfiction and/or poetry and drama; multi-cultural literature; and general education writing and rhetoric. This is a full-time, nine-month, benefited position, for the term of one year. In-person teaching at the Athens campus is expected. The teaching load is typically eight in-person courses per academic year on a semester schedule, though a lower teaching load may be negotiated based on other assigned responsibilities as department needs and candidate qualifications warrant.</p> <p>This Visiting Professor position is a one year, full-time, benefited position for the academic year 2025-2026 (from August 16, 2025, to May 15, 2026). The strong expectation is that this will be a one-year position only; however, depending on departmental requirements, funding availability, and the candidate's successful performance, there is some possibility of extending the position for up to two additional years.</p> <p>English Department: The Department of English has 33 full-time faculty across the main campus and five regional campuses in Southern and Central Ohio. Situated within the College of Arts & Sciences, the Department is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service to the students it serves in the undergraduate major, M.A. and Ph.D. degree programs, and across the university in writing and humanities general education courses.
