<p>Req Id: 35603</p> <p>Job Title: Student - Communications Intern</p> <p>City: Gary</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>Coates Inc seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to allow the intern's experience and creativity to shine in various aspects of marketing while working in a fun and professional work environment. The Coates Inc Communications Internship is a professional skills internship to assist the Executive Director in implementing organizational communications and marketing strategies. The Communications Intern will work independently and in a team to fulfill organizational goals and initiatives related to programming, events, and increasing the organization's social media presence.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Assist in planning, writing, and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters. </li><li>Implement an annual communication calendar </li><li>Update organization website using Godaddy with current events, relevant news, etc. </li><li>Design event/program fliers, graphics, video and other marketing material </li><li>Create sponsorship and fundraising literature </li><li>Update and maintain the organizations social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling and reporting social media metrics and creating goals for success </li><li>Provide input for creative marketing strategies and social media campaigns </li><li>Manage editorial and event calendars </li><li>Manage photo and video content </li><li>Foster relationships with local media and help draft press releases and reach out for event marketing </li><li>Create online advertisements as needed </li><li>Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Instagram etc. </li><li>Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications a plus </li><li>Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing </li><li>Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel) </li><li>Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Canva, and Photoshop is highly desired </li><li>Knowledge of HTML, website content management, and graphic design </li><li>Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills </li><li>Genuine enthusiasm for creating compelling marketing materials to support college and career programming </li></ul> <p>Qualifications cont'd</p> <ul> <li>Self-starter, good time management, creative, with the ability to communicate in a professional </li><li>manner </li><li>Ability to work well independently, and within a team </li><li>Possess skills at initiating innovative ideas and judging correctly what will appeal to target audiences </li><li>Exceptional writing ability and experience with writing stories </li><li>Be creative and resourceful </li><li>Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization's mission </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>PNW Federal Work-Study Student </li></ul> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Start Date: Spring/Summer 2025 semester</p> <p>Hours: 5-10 hours/week, including weekly planning meetings with the supervisor</p> <p>Interested candidates should apply by emailing their resume and communications portfolio to: info@coatesinc.org with the subject line: "Communication Internship Candidate."</p> <p>FLSA Status</p> <p>Non-Exempt</p> <p>Apply now</p> <p>Posting Start Date: 1/14/25</p>
