<p>Job Summary: A pathologists# assistant is an intensively trained allied health professional who provides anatomic pathology services under the direction and supervision of a pathologist. Pathologists# assistants interact with pathologists in same manner that physicians# assistants carry out their duties under the direction of physicians in surgical and medical practice.# Pathologists# Assistants contribute to the overall efficiency of the laboratory or pathology practice in a cost effective manner by performing a variety of tasks, consisting primarily of gross examination of surgical pathology specimens and performance of autopsies.# Each individual performs only those high complexity tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual#s education, training or experience and technical abilities. # Minimum Education/License/Certification Requirements: Federal law#classifies anatomic pathology as #high complexity# testing; thus meets CLIA requirements for high complexity testing. Bachelor or Master of Science degree from an accredited university, with completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) approved Pathologists Assistant training program and successful completion of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) PA certification examination or registry.# Diploma must indicate pathologist assistant as major.
