<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Teach Chemistry courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new programs; maintain office hours; participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement; attend graduation ceremony; assist with student advising and registration; serve on College committees; promote institutional goals; assist department chair with administrative responsibilities. Teaching may be on any of the campuses, by distance learning, and may be days, nights, weekends or a combination.</p> <ul> <li>TEACHING PERFORMANCE--present course material through a variety of appropriate and effective instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process. </li><li>INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT--develop, revise, and maintain courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and other appropriate instructional material. Recommend and assist with the design and development of new programs. </li><li>INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT--maintain required office hours, exhibit effective classroom management and control, attempt new instructional strategies and submit timely and accurate information and reports. </li><li>STUDENT ADVISEMENT--maintain current, accurate information on assigned advisees and assist with student's academic, professional, and, when applicable, personal development. </li><li>PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT--participate in activities designed to develop professional skills to maintain and improve proficiency in present employment position. </li><li>COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICE--participate in College activities and the promotion of the College and its programs through public service. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>Minimum of Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Chemistry.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Experience in teaching college transfer Chemistry to adults at the college level is strongly preferred. Having additional graduate hours in Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, and/or Analytical Chemistry is a definite plus. Post-secondary academic advising experience and new course development experience are also preferred.</p> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>While overnight travel is not a requirement for this position, evening teaching often is. The instructor should be open to the possibility of using alternate methods of delivery (online, broadcast, etc.) in presenting course materials. The instructor may be required to teach in evenings or on weekends; professional conferences may require overnight travel. Employee needs to interact effectively with a wide variety of constituencies.
