<p>POSITION TITLE ESOL SPECIALIST</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS: Certification in Elementary or Secondary Education</p> <p>Endorsement in ESL</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Building Principal</p> <p>JOB GOAL: To serve as a teacher for students with limited English Proficiency</p> <p>and provide leadership in schools to ensure comprehensive</p> <p>instructional input, language appropriate assessment and culturally sensitive support services through modifications of instructional materials, grading, assessment and scheduling for success within practices and</p> <p>policies of PCSSD.</p> <p>PERFORMANCES RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Evaluate non-English speaking students upon entering the District. </li><li>Providing pull-out instruction (tutoring) and/or teach in a sheltered ESL classroom in the secondary schools and/or co-teach in the regular classroom in the area of their certification. Preference will be given to those who are secondary certified in the core areas with ESL endorsement (K-12). </li><li>Conduct in-services in schools related to ESL issues. </li><li>Assist counselors with student placement. </li><li>Assist schools with understanding the immigrant students' level or oral/aural English competency and cultural traits </li><li>Assist students' families with understanding school procedures; provide "emergency assistance" when necessary. </li><li>Teach "survival" English and culture skills. </li><li>Advise classroom teachers and provide supplemental instructional materials upon request. </li><li>Assist with disciplinary problems upon referrals. </li><li>Assist in interpreting or provide interpreters when necessary. </li><li>Maintain records of individual students, their levels of spoken English competency (oral/aural skills), and their progress. </li><li>Attend and participate in professional meetings and conferences. </li><li>Accept responsibility for personal professional growth by reading extensively and keeping up to date on research, new materials and methods of practical application. </li><li>Select ESL related materials. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:</p> <p>Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule.
