In addition, the ability to teach introductory physics courses is desirable.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Plan course content and assign appropriate course work. </li><li>Select appropriate texts and teaching materials. </li><li>Revise course outlines, objectives, and catalog information as needed. </li><li>Meet classes at assigned times. </li><li>Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate. </li><li>Ensure that equipment and/or labs are properly maintained where appropriate. </li><li>Maintain supply and equipment inventory where appropriate. </li><li>Participate in formative and summative assessment of student learning. </li><li>Actively participate in course and program assessment. </li><li>Maintain student records, evaluate student progress and assign grades. </li><li>Maintain office hours convenient for students. </li><li>Prepare course/class reports as required. </li><li>Submit budget requests and written narrative when appropriate. </li><li>Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in-service training, etc.) </li><li>Assist in short-term and long-term planning. </li><li>Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities. </li><li>Demonstrate lifelong learning through the reading of latest research and journal articles. </li><li>Attendance and participation in conferences related to teaching area and membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended. </li><li>Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and any and policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College. </li><li>Assist in student program advisement. </li><li>Recruit students when appropriate. </li><li>Assist in placement of graduates when appropriate. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related discipline and at least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education OR Master's degree in Education and at least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related discipline. </li><li>Ability and willingness to teach introductory courses in mathematics (particularly courses below the calculus level), including courses that provide corequisite support for less well-prepared students. </li><li>Prior teaching experience in college-level courses. </li><li>Commitment to the community college mission. </li><li>Desire to be involved in division and college initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Completion of at least 18 credit hours of core, graduate-level mathematics coursework that includes both a two-course sequence in Real Analysis and a two-course sequence in Abstract Algebra. </li><li>18 graduate credit hours in physics </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in classroom, lab classroom, and office settings.</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
