<p>Company Description</p> <p>KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of 18 free, public charter schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. We partner with families and communities to create joyful and rigorous schools in pursuit of a more just world. In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in the Bronx, with a vision that every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. Today, our network consists of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive program to support our students and alumni in choosing and preparing for the educational and career paths that fit their goals and sense of purpose. KIPP NYC currently serves more than 12,000 students and alumni, has a staff of more than 1,000 (8% of whom are alumni), and continues to grow!</p> <p>About KIPP NYC College Prep High School</p> <p>In August 2009, KIPP NYC College Prep High School (CPHS) opened its doors to serve students graduating from KIPP middle schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Upper Manhattan, as well as other New York City students seeking a rigorous, college-preparatory high school program. KIPP NYC College Prep builds on the key elements of their successful elementary and middle schools, including more time in school, a focus on student achievement, highly qualified and committed faculty, and a school culture that supports success in learning. Located in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, CPHS currently educates over 2,000 students in grades 9-12 across two locations. Over 90% of students enroll in at least one type of rigorous academics, including (16) Advanced Placement (AP), (17) Dual Enrollment, and (13) Honors courses. In addition to a wide range of electives and over 25 clubs, there are 13 varsity and junior varsity sports programs. Last, CPHS provides a comprehensive college and career counseling department to ensure students engage in enriching summer programming, develop individual career plans, are fully prepared for the SAT college entrance exam, and go on to enroll in a college or career opportunity that meets their interests, abilities, and financial needs. Since its founding, 99% of CPHS students have graduated from high school, 91% have matriculated to a 2- or 4-year college, and 49% have received a college degree in 6 or more years.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Position Overview</p> <p>The Assistant Principal of Culture will oversee the development of a safe and inclusive learning environment and a culture of joy across all spaces of our school community. In collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning, the Assistant Principal of Culture will work to ensure that teachers have all of the support that they need to maximize the potential of all instruction. The Assistant Principal of Culture works from the belief that excellent schools develop and sustain the capacity for staff to lead and take ownership of classroom, grade level, and wider school's success. The Assistant Principal manages and guides staff to be their most effective in empowering students to achieve at high levels and grow in personal character. The Assistant Principal of Culture reports to the Principal.</p> <p>Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <p>School-wide Vision and Goals Planning and Implementation:</p> <ul> <li>Supports the development of the Principal's school-wide vision and takes an active role in investing and mobilizing staff to achieve the collective goals of the school </li><li>Owns the implementation of select school priorities in support of the school-wide vision </li><li>With guidance from the Principal, leads the planning and goal setting for the grades/departments that they coach and ensures alignment with school-wide goals </li><li>Provides input into the school-based strategic planning and identifies what the school's strategic plan means for their leadership and people that they manage </li></ul> <p>Management, Coaching and Supervision:</p> <ul> <li>Directly manage, support, and coach the Directors or Assistant Directors of Students of Upper or Lower Schools (Deans), the Fairness Committee Coordinator, and the Advisory Coordinator. </li><li>Supervise the Security team and collaborate with the Sr. Director of Operations to ensure that all staffing and tech needs (Camera System) are in place to ensure community safety. </li><li>Work with community leads to provide our staff, students, and parents with development/growth opportunities that are culturally relevant. </li><li>Coordinate with the OCA in their management of the FCA (Family Community Association) in supporting our parents and our community connections </li><li>Creates and executes coaching plans and evaluations to ensure the development of staff leadership </li></ul> <p>Student Progress Monitoring & Intervention:</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for the development, progress monitoring, and execution of the tiered interventions at KIPP NYC College Prep. These interventions encompass a broad range of services, from referrals, to restorative circles and mediations, to suspension hearings. </li><li>Supervise, develop, and monitor regular Grade-level Student Progress meetings for all grades and support staff. </li><li>Promotes and develops strong teams of deans and counselors who collaborate, communicate, and work together to ensure the success of at-risk students in the CPHS community </li><li>Plans and leads professional development that results in improved pedagogy and student achievement </li><li>Provide access to or develop training for the staff members directly related to restorative practices </li><li>Drive results toward college and career-ready academic and character development benchmarks </li></ul> <p>External Relationships:</p> <ul> <li>Build and develop relationships with regional stakeholders that communicate important information to the community. (Legal Consult, Regional Managers and Shared Services) accordingly. </li><li>Build and Develop relationships with community stakeholders that collaborate with our community to ensure the safety of all and to grow the strength of our community relations. (local precinct, HOSTOS, local stores, BOOM Health, Lincoln Hospital) </li><li>Lower School AP: Collaborate with KIPP NYC Middle School liaisons and Lower School DOO in order to ensure a smooth and aligned transition to high school. </li><li>Upper School AP: Collaborate with the Lower School AP of Culture and Lower and Upper School DOOs in order to ensure a smooth and aligned transition to upper school. </li></ul> <p>School Operations:</p> <ul> <li>Manage cultural programming in all grade levels. </li><li>Co-Manage Summer School (if applicable). </li><li>Regularly update and maintain the CPHS Culture Playbook and Dean's Handbook </li><li>Monitor and respond to student progress through existing platforms: Deanslist, Cohort and Suspension Tracker, Schoolzilla, PowerSchool, etc. </li><li>Monitors the growth and development of the student handbook and expectations to ensure that it is in line with our lived experiences in the building. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>KIPP NYC is looking for exceptional individuals who have a strong interest in building a school of excellence. We are seeking individuals from all backgrounds who believe in KIPP NYC's mission and who have the potential to excel as professionals and leaders within our building.</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree or completion of equivalent leadership program </li><li>At least three years of experience leading, managing, and coaching a team of at least 5 or more adults,, including leaders,, that demonstrates the ability to drive results through others </li><li>Experience leading adults in a school environment. </li><li>The ability to think and make sound decisions during moments of crisis </li><li>Openness to feedback with a desire for self-improvement </li><li>Self-awareness, with an ability to treat all members of the school's community with respect and an accurate idea of one's own strengths and weaknesses </li><li>Ability to analyze data and develop a plan of action to improve the school community </li><li>Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills, including working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and with diverse perspectives </li><li>Strong organizational, self-management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle many responsibilities simultaneously </li><li>Flexibility and willingness to participate in the school community, including, but not limited to: chaperoning school trips, participating in school-organized events, and working with parents and families. </li><li>Outstanding organizational skills and close attention to detail; exceptional written and oral communication skills. </li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorities inherent in an educational environment. </li><li>Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative and teamwork. </li><li>Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one's work. </li><li>Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity. </li><li>Flexibility, including the ability to adjust to requirements in a dynamic work environment. </li><li>Ability to gather information on community occurrences and put action steps in place that address the needs of community members </li><li>A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Compensation and Benefits:</p> <p>KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $139,364 - $203,010. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and the scope of responsibility within the role.
