<p>Position at New York City Transit</p> <p>Title: Transit Railcar Technology Specialist 1-4</p> <p>First Date of Posting: 04/23/2025</p> <p>Last Date of Filing: 05/09/2025</p> <p>Authority: TA</p> <p>Department: Subways</p> <p>Division/Unit: Car Equipment</p> <p>Reports to: Manager of Mechanical/Electrical Systems Engineering</p> <p>Work Location: 130 Livingston Street</p> <p>Hours of Work: 7:30AM To 3:30PM (Schedules subject to change)</p> <p>COMPENSATION</p> <p>Salary Range:</p> <p>Transit Railcar Tech Specialist I - $73,878 - $96,395</p> <p>Transit Railcar Tech Specialist II - $87,701 - $110,411</p> <p>Transit Railcar Tech Specialist III - $104,266 - $125,964</p> <p>Transit Railcar Tech Specialist IV - $116,636 - $137,501</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>The TRTS position will be responsible for assisting the Mechanical and Electrical Car Systems Engineering staff in various technical and analytical tasks essential to maintaining and improving rolling stock performance. </li><li>Key responsibilities include conducting in-depth engineering analyses to assess system functionality, reviewing and developing engineering drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and industry standards, and prototyping and testing components to validate design improvements. </li><li>The role will also involve implementing design modifications to enhance reliability and efficiency, as well as witnessing testing at vendor sites to verify compliance with contractual and technical requirements. </li><li>Additionally, the position will oversee the approval or disapproval of performance test requirements, ensuring all evaluations align with operational standards. Responsibilities extend to scheduling and monitoring performance tests, diagnosing and troubleshooting system failures, and analyzing and compiling comprehensive reports detailing test results and failure investigations. </li><li>The role will play a key part in developing equipment performance specifications, quality standards, work scope definitions, maintenance manuals, and test procedures to support continued existing fleet reliability. </li><li>The employee in this position will work closely with Maintenance and Overhaul Shops to implement engineering solutions effectively. Furthermore, coordination with external departments such as Procurement, Systems Safety, and Quality Assurance. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, plus:</p> <p>(a) Two years of full- time satisfactory experience performing one of the</p> <p>following:</p> <p>(i) Reviewing moderately complex design or maintenance manuals or</p> <p>documents of railcars, automobiles, trucks, buses, marine vessels,</p> <p>aircraft or other industrial equipment; or</p> <p>(ii) Preparing plans and technical specifications for railcars or other</p> <p>vehicles and equipment described in a(i); or</p> <p>(iii) Inspecting, performing, or supervising quality control reviews of the</p> <p>work described in a(i) and a(ii); and</p> <p>(b) Three years of full-time satisfactory experience performing one or a</p> <p>combination of the following:</p> <p>(i) Inspecting, maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting of railcar or other</p> <p>vehicles and equipment described in a(i); or</p> <p>(ii) Supervising or performing the installation of railcar or other vehicles</p> <p>or equipment described in a(i); or</p> <ol start="2"> <li>A four-year vocational/technical high school diploma with a major sequence of </li></ol> <p>courses in electrical, mechanical, or electronic technology, or a closely related field,</p> <p>plus two years of full-time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above and</p> <p>two years of the full-time satisfactory experience described in "1 (b)" above; or</p> <ol start="3"> <li>An associate degree from an accredited college with a major sequence of courses </li></ol> <p>in electrical, mechanical, civil, transportation, aerospace or computer</p> <p>engineering, electrical/electronic technology, computers science, cyber security</p> <p>or related degree, plus two years of the full-time satisfactory experience described</p> <p>in "1 (a)" above, and one year of the full-time satisfactory experience described</p> <p>in "1 (b)" above; or</p> <ol start="4"> <li>A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major sequence of </li></ol> <p>courses as described in "3" above, plus two years of the full-time satisfactory</p> <p>experience described in "1 (a) or 1 (b)" above; or</p> <ol start="5"> <li>A master's degree from an accredited college in one of the major fields described </li></ol> <p>in "3" above, plus one year of the full-time satisfactory experience described in ""1</p> <p>(a) or 1 (b)" above.</p> <p>DESIRED SKILLS:</p> <ul> <li>Professional and Strong Work Ethic </li><li>Oral and Written Communication </li><li>Technical Proficiency </li><li>Problem-Solving </li><li>Team Collaboration </li><li>Attention to Detail </li></ul> <p>SELECTION METHOD</p> <p>Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview</p> <p>OTHER INFORMATION</p> <p>Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all</p> <p>employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial</p> <p>Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the</p> <p>"Commission")</p> <p>EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY</p> <p>MTA and its subsidiary and affiliated agencies are Equal Opportunity Employers,</p> <p>including with respect to veteran status and individuals with disabilities.</p> <p>The MTA encourages qualified applicants from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and</p> <p>abilities, including military service members, to apply</p>
