<p>Assistant Professor of 3D Art</p> <p>The Department of Art at Hendrix College invites applications for a one-year visiting position for an Assistant Professor of 3D Art, with the possibility of renewal, to begin on August 1, 2025. The College seeks to extend its tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship by attracting faculty who combine mastery of their disciplines with broad intellectual interests and commitment to the aims of a liberal arts college. The successful candidate will:</p> <ul> <li>teach three courses per semester, including introductory and intermediate courses in ceramics and 3D art (courses may include ceramics hand-building, wheel-throwing, sculpture, 3D design, and mixed-media), </li><li>mentor students in the development of their technical skills and conceptual understanding, encouraging self-expression and creativity, </li><li>supervise studio activities, including oversight of kiln operations, studio maintenance, and health and safety protocols, </li><li>participate actively in the academic and artistic community of Hendrix College through departmental meetings, exhibitions, and interdisciplinary collaboration, and </li><li>engage continually in their professional studio work. </li></ul> <p>An MFA in Art or a related field (or equivalent professional experience) is expected by the start date; however, applicants who are ABD at the time of application will be considered. Applications should include:</p> <ul> <li>a cover letter addressing the candidate's interest in teaching in a demanding liberal arts environment, </li><li>a curriculum vitae, including information about exhibitions and prior teaching experience, </li><li>a statement of teaching interests, </li><li>evidence of teaching effectiveness, </li><li>graduate transcripts, </li><li>a link to an online portfolio of 15-20 images of your recent work (include link in cover letter), </li><li>a link to an online portfolio of no more than 20 images of student work if available (if available, include link in cover letter) and </li><li>contact information for three professional references (include in cover letter). </li></ul> <p>Address the cover letter to the Chair of the Department of Art, Dr. Todd Tinsley. Review of materials will begin March 31, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled.</p> <p>Hendrix College provides excellent facilities and resources to support faculty and students in the visual arts.</p> <ul> <li>Drawing: A shared drawing studio featuring north light, customizable lighting, and a spray booth. </li><li>Painting: A dedicated painting studio with north light, customizable lighting, ample storage space, and access to a full-service woodshop. </li><li>Photography: A fully equipped analog darkroom with 12 enlargers and all necessary materials for traditional photographic processes. </li><li>Printmaking: A well-equipped printmaking studio featuring two etching presses, a Vandercook letterpress, a vacuum exposure unit, electrolytic etching tanks, and extensive type and plate-making equipment. </li><li>3D Art: A comprehensive ceramics and sculpture studio, including a new kiln, throwing wheels, glaze room, foundry area, sculpture studio with woodshop, 3D printers, and a laser cutter. </li><li>College-wide Professional Development Opportunities: Faculty have access to a competitive pool of professional development funds. Furthermore, the Odyssey Program supports faculty-student engaged learning projects, providing infrastructure and funding for experiential, research-based, and creative projects. </li></ul> <p>Hendrix College is home to the Windgate Museum of Art (WMA), a teaching museum dedicated to enhancing student learning through engagement with innovative and challenging artwork. With a focus on experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and artistic risk-taking, the WMA provides unique opportunities for faculty and students to engage with art beyond the classroom.
