<p>Position Summary</p> <p>Laboratory Technician 1: This is the entry-level work involving the proper receipt, storage, security and disposition of evidence submitted to the laboratory. Strict documentation of the evidence chain of custody is an integral part of this position. In addition, maintain compliance with ANAB and Crime Laboratory Bureau Policies and Procedures for requirements of Accreditation of Forensic Science Testing Laboratories. This position works closely with law enforcement personnel, District Attorneys and their office personnel, and Crime Laboratory analysts. This position may have the opportunity to assist other units within the Madison Crime Laboratory. All of these duties are accomplished under close, progressing to limited supervision.</p> <p>Laboratory Technician 2: This is the senior level for work involving the proper receiving, storage, security and disposition of evidence submitted to the laboratory. This position typically handles more complex, non-routine forensic evidence and related materials. Strict documentation of the evidence chain of custody is an integral part of this position. In addition, maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and ASCLD/LAB-lnternational and the Division of Forensic Sciences' Policies and Procedures for requirements of Accreditation of Forensic Science Testing Laboratories. This position works closely with law enforcement personnel, District Attorneys and their office personnel, and Crime Laboratory analysts. This position may have the opportunity to assist other units within the Madison Crime Laboratory. This position will assist with training of Laboratory Technicians. These duties are accomplished independently under general supervision.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>The Laboratory Technician I position is in pay schedule 06 and pay range 12 with a starting rate of $21.55/hr. The Laboratory Technician 2 position is in pay schedule 06 and pay range 13 with a starting rate of $23.32/hr. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.</p> <p>Job Details</p> <p>The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.</p> <p>A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Please address the following in your resume and/or letter of qualifications.</p> <p>Minimally qualified candidates must have the following training, education and/or experience:</p> <ul> <li>Performing data entry of which requires a high degree of accuracy. </li><li>Performing routine tasks while maintaining strict adherence to standardized policies and procedures. </li><li>Professional experience working with job specific software (e.g., laboratory management software or quality management software). </li><li>Using Microsoft Suite products, or similar, on a daily basis to: </li><li>Create/edit documents. </li><li>Utilize Outlook email and calendar functions. </li><li>Maintain spreadsheets and databases. </li></ul> <p>In addition to the qualifications listed above, a well-qualified applicant will also have a combination of training, education, and/or experience in:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of current methods and procedures used in the proper handling, inventory, and preservation of evidence. </li><li>Experience entering large quantities of data with accuracy. </li><li>Experience applying quality control and standardized procedures in a laboratory or law enforcement setting. </li></ul> <p>How To Apply</p> <p>Apply online!
