For more information, visit www.emmanuel.edu.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Chemistry Lab and Instrument Manager will be responsible for coordination, preparation, set-up and clean-up of materials for laboratories in chemistry and physics courses. Other responsibilities include hazardous waste management, oversight of laboratory safety, and maintaining science instrumentation.</p> <p>Responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinating the preparation, set-up and clean-up of materials for chemistry and physics laboratory courses; </li><li>Responsible for procurement of all equipment and supplies; </li><li>Responsible for maintaining science instrumentation and departmental budget, including strategic needs for capital items for teaching and research; </li><li>Training and supervision of student assistants in the preparation set up and clean-up of materials for all laboratories in chemistry and physics; </li><li>Working closely with chemical hygiene officer to ensure compliance with the EPA and OSHA regulations for storage, labeling, handling, and disposal of chemicals; </li><li>Approving SOPs for hazardous chemicals used on campus: </li><li>Ensuring that faculty and students follow required state and federal policies and procedures, participating in all relevant training and education; </li><li>Organizing and maintaining storage/preparation areas, monitoring students and faculty in laboratory safety practices and potential hazards; </li><li>Oversight for the maintenance and management of major equipment (UV-Vis, ICP-AES, FTIR, Raman, Fluorimeter, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, 90 MHz NMR, DLS, electrochemistry, microwave Synthesizer) and oversee related sample preparation; </li><li>Assisting with the operation of analytical instrumentation as needed including training of faculty and students; </li><li>Coordinating supply management and preventive maintenance scheduling of the above instrumentation and common laboratory equipment, such as Vernier LabQuests, and water baths; </li><li>Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of supplies, equipment, and chemicals; </li><li>Active member of the Institutional Biosafety and Chemical Safety Committee (IBCSC) </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Our ideal candidates will demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the College's mission and the value of Catholic higher education. Must demonstrate the ability to relate to multiple constituencies, to communicate effectively, and to be an integral part of the vibrant Emmanuel community. Master degree in science required. PhD preferred. Solid understanding of EPA and OSHA regulations.
