Many patients often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening, so you can help them feel at ease while obtaining all the required specimens. At Cleveland Clinic, you can also explore advanced positions, such as Lead Phlebotomist, Team Lead, Supervisor and Manager.</p> <p>A caregiver in this position works days from 7:30AM - 4:00PM and 8:00AM - 4:30PM.</p> <p>A caregiver who excels in this role will:</p> <ul> <li>Perform blood collection procedures and related tasks. </li><li>Verify order requests and identifying information prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit to be tested by analytical staff. </li><li>Label all specimens collected and deliver them to the appropriate processing area. </li><li>Follow venipuncture procedures and maintain appropriate log sheets. </li><li>Greet patients warmly and professionally at check in or when they present to outpatient lab desks or when entering a patient's room and completes test request entry and specimen receipt using lab computer. </li><li>Perform specimen processing and send out tasks including accessioning, centrifugation and packaging for transport when necessary for all specimen types. </li><li>Communicate essential information to appropriate personnel. </li></ul> <p>Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types, and lab supplies to appropriate areas.</p> <ul> <li>Participate in team discussions, provide problem solving ideas and contribute to quality improvement goals. </li></ul> <p>Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED </li><li>Proficiency in standard procedures, techniques and common practices </li></ul> <p>Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:</p> <ul> <li>Formal Phlebotomy Certification </li></ul> <p>Our caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients across each of our facilities.
