<p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Under direct on-premises supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA, helps carry out treatment needs of patients as directed by the Occupational Therapist. The COTA also performs designated routine tasks related to the operation of the department. Demonstrates competency in skills necessary to care for and manage primarily adolescent, adult and geriatric age patients in an acute care and outpatient setting, or acute inpatient rehabilitation unit setting.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Assists in scheduling inpatients, outpatients, or inpatient Rehab Unit patients to effect a timely, organized provision of O.T. services. </li><li>Assists with supervising and training students during any clinical affiliation periods to help provide a coordinated, meaningful clinical opportunity. May supervise and train O.T.A. students under O.T. supervision. </li><li>Communicates all pertinent patient related information for inpatients/outpatients to the primary Occupational Therapist on the patient case and communicates with all other healthcare members in a cooperative, faciliatory manner to promote quality care and optimal goal achievement. </li><li>Assumes responsibility for cleanliness and neatness within the department to provide a visually acceptable facility to patients and staff. </li><li>Prepares purchase requisitions to obtain/maintain necessary departmental supplies/equipment for Occupational Therapy services to be reviewed and approved by the Occupational Therapy Supervisor. Utilizes hospital computers for completion of purchase requests. </li><li>Maintains all Occupational Therapy treatment statistics and records charges as requested by the O.T. Supervisor to adequately document provision of services and obtain appropriate reimbursement. Records daily charges for assigned inpatients and outpatients (adolescent, adult, geriatric). </li><li>Abides by all hospital policies and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department policies and procedures set forth by the Director including hours of operation, scheduling, dress codes, and all other criteria for the daily operation of the department of Occupational Therapy services. </li><li>Prepare equipment and treatment setups for individual patient caseload.
