<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Student Mental Health Counselor position is housed in the Dr. J. Michael Harding Center for Health and Wellness (CHW) and provides a wide range of counseling services to students, including individual and group counseling sessions, alcohol and other substance use education and counseling, as well as crisis intervention and referral services. These services allow students to seek resolution to personal, emotional, vocational, and/or social problems. The Student Mental Health Counselor also consults as appropriate with faculty and staff colleagues to optimize student mental health and wellness on the Marietta College campus. The Student Mental Health Counselor should possess broad generalist counseling skills and also a working knowledge of eating disorders, sexual violence, sexual orientation, gender, and other identity-related issues. This is a full-time 12-month position, with the possibility for part-time and/or a 9-month appointment and limited summer hours.</p> <p>Essential Functions of the Position:</p> <ul> <li>Provide individual and group counseling, along with crisis intervention and referral services to students. </li><li>Maintain clinical records and provide clinical documentation and communication with external practitioners as necessary for ethical clinical treatment. </li><li>Deliver evidence-based education on the prevention of substance abuse, preferably with prior experience using Choices, BASICS, and peer education. </li><li>Provide case management and advocate services related to identity/identity development and to survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, and/or sexual harassment throughout the duration of college-administered and/or external (i.e., legal) investigations and processes. </li><li>Provide consultation to various constituents, including faculty, staff, students, and parents. </li><li>Initiate and respond to requests to provide educational programming to various groups within the college community. </li><li>Intervene in student crisis and emergency situations of a mental health nature using Critical Incident Stress Management protocols. This includes after hours on-call responsibilities. </li><li>Provide supervision to trainees in the CHW training program as needed, and as appropriate with regard to the Counselor's specific license endorsements. </li><li>Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the field of Counseling or Social Work (as appropriate to the Staff Counselor's licensure) and participate in ongoing professional development through continuing education and conference attendance. </li><li>Assist with new student recruitment and/or onboarding events. </li><li>Participate in training, supervising, and consulting with other staff and trainees about alcohol and other drug assessment and treatment services. </li><li>Provide College-mandated and voluntary substance abuse assessments for Marietta students. </li><li>Pursue and maintain relationships with treatment centers in order to facilitate effective referrals for intensive outpatient therapy and/or inpatient therapy. </li><li>Serve on appropriate college committees, as assigned. </li><li>Work cooperatively with both college departments and community-based agencies to enhance efforts related to the prevention of sexual assault, relationship violence, and sexual harassment. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Required Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Strong administrative, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. </li><li>Commitment to working effectively as a member of a team delivering both medical and counseling services. </li><li>Proficiency in client/direct service provision, especially to a diverse student population. </li></ul> <p>Required Experience & Education:</p> <ul> <li>Completion of a graduate degree in clinical mental health counseling or social work. </li><li>Licensed to practice, or eligible for licensure, in the State of Ohio as an LPC, LPCC, LPCC-S, LSW, LISW, or LISW-S. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>One to three years related experience, preferably in a college student health center setting. </li><li>Certification, or eligibility for certification, in the State of Ohio for chemical dependency counseling. </li><li>Experience providing substance abuse services. </li><li>A solid foundation in student development theory. </li><li>Working knowledge of electronic medical records, scheduling software, and other computer software programs. </li><li>While not required, preference is for candidates with LPCC, LPCC-S, LISW, or LISW-S credentials. </li></ul> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and contact information for three professional references.
