<p>Lab Technician, Automotive</p> <p>Department: Automotive Technology</p> <p>Location: Western Campus</p> <p>Reports To: Program Director</p> <p>Recruitment Type: External/Internal</p> <p>Requisition ID: req5953</p> <p>Employment Type: Part-Time Support Staff</p> <p>Union Position: Union</p> <p>Work Schedule: 5-11pm</p> <p>Number of Openings: 1</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>SUMMARY</p> <p>The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for preparing the laboratory classrooms and demonstrations in accordance to lesson plans, assisting in the troubleshooting of equipment and software to meet the needs of the lesson plan and appropriate clean up after the lesson has concluded. Ultimately, ensuring the laboratory is secured, equipment is cleaned, maintained and stored properly.</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li> <p>Prepares classroom laboratory workstations with the necessary materials and apparatus to perform experiments</p> </li><li> <p>Sets up and prepares experiments and demonstrations for classroom use</p> </li><li> <p>Arranges supplies and equipment as laboratory requirements change</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains and cleans the laboratory, stockroom, equipment and glassware</p> </li><li> <p>Fills tubes, bottles and containers with specified solutions/materials and applies identification labels</p> </li><li> <p>Properly disposes of laboratory waste materials</p> </li><li> <p>Assists faculty in the laboratory; sometimes during educational sessions, by providing technical troubleshooting support</p> </li><li> <p>Performs minor repairs and maintenance of laboratory equipment and tools</p> </li><li> <p>Assists faculty with the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures and/or curricula</p> </li><li> <p>Secures laboratory area</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with annual inventory</p> </li><li> <p>May record and monitors expenditures and charges relevant to laboratory operation</p> </li><li> <p>May functionally supervise Work Study Students, Student Assistants and Part Time Lab Technicians in the lab</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares, maintains and monitors supplies and equipment inventory</p> </li><li> <p>Assists Lab Supervisor in ordering, receiving and storing supplies</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other related duties as assigned</p> </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING</p> <ul> <li> <p>High School degree or GED</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum of two years of experience:</p> </li><li> <p>Automotive Laboratory Technicians: these two years must be in an automotive repair shop or equivalent</p> </li><li> <p>Basic computer skills, math and grammar</p> </li><li> <p>Strong attention to detail and accuracy</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent verbal, written and verbal communication skills; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence</p> </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability to read and interpret documents including: Safety Data Sheets (SDS), safety rules and processes, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to determine needs and identify solutions</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with data collection and diagnostic software/equipment; for example:</p> </li><li> <p>Automotive Laboratory Technician: ODB scanners</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of regular work</p> </li><li> <p>Possess working knowledge of laboratory concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus</p> </li><li> <p>Possess strong attention to detail and accuracy</p> </li><li> <p>Possess strong organizational and time-management skills</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to write routine reports, protocols, and correspondence</p> </li><li> <p>Possess sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population</p> </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree </li></ul> <p>COMPETENCIES</p> <p>CRITICAL COMPETENCIES</p> <ul> <li>Service Focus </li><li>Quality of Work </li><li>Communication </li></ul> <p>VERY IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES</p> <ul> <li>Time Utilization </li><li>Adaptability </li></ul> <p>IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES</p> <ul> <li>Collaboration </li><li>Continuous Improvement </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>(The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
