<p>General Description</p> <p>This position oversees seasonal workers performing pavement marking activities (such as painting crosswalks, stop bars, flat and raised islands) throughout the City of Madison. This position assigns and coordinates seasonal crews and equipment. This position reviews completed work, inspects and maintains equipment, and maintains related pavement marking data, maps, and records. Assignments are provided by Leadworkers and performed independently or as part of a crew with limited supervision.</p> <p>Duration: Approximately May 19, 2025 through mid-August</p> <p>Hours: This position works nights from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Sunday - Thursday.In the event of inclement weather no work may be available, work hours are not guaranteed.</p> <p>The hourly wage consists of a base wage of $22.68 per hour plus a $2.50 per hour bonus.</p> <p>APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE CLOSING DATE, HOWEVER THE SELECTION PROCESS WILL BEGIN PRIOR TO THE CLOSING DATE BASED UPON THE NEEDS OF THE DEPARTMENT</p> <p>Black, Indigenous, people of color, women, trans, nonbinary, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Even if every item on the job posting doesn't match your experience perfectly, we encourage you to apply and share how your skills and experience can best serve our community.</p> <p>Examples of Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Schedule, oversee, and/or perform the installation and repair of painted street markings (such as crosswalks and stop bars, and flat and raised islands. </li><li>Perform minor maintenance and repairs to crosswalk machines, small engines, and miscellaneous equipment. </li><li>Review completed work for accuracy and completeness. </li><li>Interact with the public as necessary to answer questions or provide assistance. </li><li>Provide written and/or verbal progress reports to the Traffic Operations Leadworker on a daily basis. </li><li>Perform related duties as assigned. </li><li>Locate, set up, and paint on-street marking sites, such as crosswalks, stop bars, and other markings as directed. </li><li>Operate a truck throughout the City as detailed on intersection maps and lists, while towing a trailer of necessary painting equipment. </li><li>Operate paint machine and associated equipment. </li><li>Set up and maintain on-street work safety zones. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>One (1) year of experience in ANYof the following areas: use of small engines (ex: operation of lawn mowers, snowblowers or other small lawn/garden equipment) or airless paint systems or automotive or construction or agriculture or farming; AND </li><li>One (1) year of experience leading or directing staff or ANYgroup of individuals. This may include extra-curricular activities, sports, volunteering, coaching, teaching. </li><li>OR- </li><li>One (1) successful season as a Traffic Engineering Crosswalk Painter </li></ul> <p>If an applicant does not possess the specific requirements outlined above, HR will review the application materials to determine if the applicant possesses the following equivalent experience:</p> <p>Two years of experience with the following:</p> <ul> <li>Work zone safety practices and principles, especially in traffic situations. </li><li>Computer software applicable to the duties of the position. </li><li>Small engine repair principles and tools. </li><li>Leadership principles and practices. </li></ul> <p>The City of Madison strives to provide exceptional customer service to all its residents and visitors. Therefore, successful candidates will have demonstrated ability to work effectively with multicultural communities and the ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions; </li><li>Read drawings and blueprints; </li><li>Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; </li><li>Keep accurate records; </li><li>Assign and monitor work performance; </li><li>Work independently; </li><li>Work with paint; </li><li>Operate motorized vehicles with trailers; </li><li>Perform minor maintenance and repairs to small engines, crosswalk machines, and related miscellaneous equipment; </li><li>Maintain adequate attendance. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements</p> <p>Possession of a valid driver's license by the time of interview.</p> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>This position works in traffic situations in adverse weather conditions and is responsible for operating a motor vehicle. Ability to manually load, unload and operate a crosswalk machine on wheels weighing up to 400 lbs. Ability to lift five-gallon pails of paint (75 lbs.) to a height of 36 inches on a regular basis and performing associated manual labor.</p> <ul> <li>The payroll title for this position is Technical Aide 3 </li></ul>
