The college is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Summer Learning Leader, TRIO Upward Bound Program</p> <p>Campus Location: NSCC Lynn & UMass Amherst</p> <p>Work Schedule: June 24 & June 25: Staff Training</p> <p>June 26 - July 18: Day Program (program not in session, Friday July 4) 8am-4pm</p> <p>July 19 - August 2: Residential Program, UMass Amherst</p> <p>August 6: NSCC: Wrapping up paperwork and program materials</p> <p>Non-benefited, grant funded</p> <p>ABOUT TRIO UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM</p> <p>The North Shore Community College (NSCC) TRIO Upward Bound (UB) Program is a federally funded program for low-income, first-generation, and/or academically at-risk high school students. The primary mission is to increase the rate at which participants complete their secondary school education, and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. The UB program provides academic, co- and extracurricular activities during the academic year and the summer, including instruction, tutoring, college tours, cultural events, health and fitness activities, educational workshops, and service activities.</p> <p>ABOUT UB SUMMER ACADEMY</p> <p>The UB Summer Academy is a six-week program that simulates commuter and residential college experiences. The Summer Academy serves approximately 40 students from the Lynn Public Schools. This year's Summer Academy includes a four-week, day program at North Shore Community College's Lynn Campus and a two- week residential program at Umass Amherst. The program runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM during the non-residential component and Sunday evening through Saturday afternoon during the residential component. The overarching theme for this year's Summer Academy is, Organize, Agitate, Educate.</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:</p> <p>The four Academy Learning Leaders support the curricular, co- and extra-curricular of the UB Summer Academy.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>General</p> <ul> <li>Attend and participate in staff training, daily/weekly staff meetings, and end-of-program activities </li><li>Build and maintain a positive, supportive, productive, and safe environment for both students and staff </li><li>Assist with opening or closing the program each day, greeting students, monitoring activities, assisting students getting to/from class, announcements; and organizing program spaces and supplies via zoom </li><li>Assist the Program Coordinator and Community Team Leaders with workshops </li><li>Develop announcements and organize program spaces and supplies for activities </li><li>Assist with monitoring student behavior for compliance with Upward Bound and college policies </li><li>Assisting students getting to/from class (sending links, phone calls, text messages, reminders, etc.) </li><li>Assist instructors with the preparation of class material and student reports </li><li>Serve as the tutor for assigned classes; work closely with the instructors to provide interventions and support; provide academic support during office hours </li><li>Individually mentor and conduct weekly student group meetings for an assigned group of students </li><li>Serve as a role model for students during social and virtual activities </li><li>Assist with daily student curricular and co-curricular activities and field trips as needed </li><li>Appropriately represent NSCC and UB at all events </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Residential Component</p> <ul> <li>Shared responsibility for dormitory supervision of project participants </li><li>Assist with dining hall, floor duty, bell-desk coverage, and monitoring residence hall floors </li><li>Assist with residence hall set up and clean-up during and beginning and the end of the program. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Completion of at least one year of college and current enrollment in an undergraduate program </li><li>At least 19 years of age at the start of the program </li><li>Knowledge of/experience with the Upward Bound program </li><li>Demonstrated high degree of creativity, energy, and enthusiasm </li><li>Demonstrated ability to be punctual and dependable </li><li>Demonstrated ability to act as a team player </li><li>Availability to complete mandatory staff training before the start of the summer component </li><li>Bi-lingual (Spanish, French, Khmer) preferred </li><li>Previous residence life, advising, and/or tutoring experience preferred </li><li>Tutoring experience, particularly with low income and/or minority youth preferred </li><li>Demonstrated sensitivity towards and passion and commitment to working with students and staff of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, different levels of academic preparation, or/and varying physical and learning abilities; prior experience preferred </li><li>Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI background check as a condition of employment </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>SALARY: Total earnings for this position is $2,772 at $18 per hour plus room and board and transportation to/from during the residential portion of the program.</p> <p>STARTING DATE: Tuesday, June 24, 2025</p> <p>North Shore Community College is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, sex, disability, religion, age, veteran status, genetic information, pregnancy or related conditions, gender identity, sex characteristics, sex stereotypes or sexual orientation in its programs and activities as required by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and other applicable statutes and college policies.
