<p>Position: Long Term Substitute Speech and Language Pathologist</p> <p>Position Type: Long Term Substitute Full-time</p> <p>Department: Student Services</p> <p>Location: Watertown Public Schools</p> <p>Reports to: Director of Student Services</p> <p>Affiliation: WEA Unit A</p> <p>Salary range: Per the WEA Unit A Salary Schedule</p> <p>This is a one-year long-term substitute role for the 2025-2026 school year.</p> <p>General Description:</p> <p>The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating students with speech, language, and communication disorders that impact their ability to access the curriculum. The SLP collaborates with teachers, staff, and families to develop and implement individualized strategies that support student success. This position requires expertise in conducting assessments, creating intervention plans, and providing direct therapy services to students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans. The SLP plays a critical role in fostering inclusive learning environments, promoting communication equity, and ensuring that students receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Consultation with teachers and staff regarding teaching students with communication disorders </li><li>Administration of speech and language evaluations and production of thorough evaluation reports including educationally relevant findings, student goals, and recommendations </li><li>Provision of direct speech therapy services to students to address communication issues that are interfering with learning </li><li>Completion of screenings as requested through Student Intervention Team (SIT) processes and IEP Team processes </li><li>Participation as needed in SIT meetings and IEP team meetings </li><li>Completion of relevant sections of IEPs and 504 plans </li><li>Completion of quarterly progress reports </li><li>Documentation of services provided </li><li>Provision of training for teachers, staff, and parents regarding the role of a speech-language pathologist in an educational setting </li><li>Promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure opportunities for student learning in the least restrictive environment, regardless of race, gender, gender identity, national origin, language, homelessness, or disability </li></ul> <p>Qualifications Required:</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree </li><li>Current Massachusetts DESE licensure as a speech-language pathologist and SEI endorsement or dual certification in ESL. </li><li>Current Massachusetts Board licensure as a speech-language pathologist </li><li>Flexibility with respect to caseloads, age groups, and scheduling </li><li>Experience as a speech-language pathologist in a public school setting </li><li>Experience assessing all school-age children </li><li>Familiarity with evaluating students who are English Language Learners preferred </li><li>ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency preferred </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer</p> <p>Watertown Public Schools is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
